Just got home from our first shoot of the year. Shot my new to me Jim Curlee longbow. Switched from a recurve to longbow and 3 under to split finger. Shot great on the first 20 targets and then kind of lost concentration. Still shot an honest 300 score. My son whipped my butt. He shot a 348 with his Saxon longbow. All in all a great day.

I was at my first shoot of the year today also. I was pooped out by the end of the day. Need to get back in shape.

For sure!! Forty target doesn't seem like a lot but by # 30 I needed to take a break, but I didn't and my shooting showed it. Good to be out shooting no matter what.

From now on though, I will take a nice break after twenty or so targets.

We have a 28 field coming May 21st at local club. Four arrows per target...total 112 shots, from 20 ft to 80 yards, not counting practice range before the shoot. At 71 years of age I'll need to focus for sure, but it sure as heck is fun. Just have to pack some liquid in the fanny pack.

In our area most 3D courses are 30 targets. At our club we run two loops of 15, so you can take a breather half way. Only a few clubs run a 30 target loop.
Shooting my first of the year tomorrow with a couple friends I haven't seen for a year. I expect to have some laughs, and hope to bring my arrows back alive ;-)

Usually a 20 target loop here abouts. Shooting starts a day break now that it is heating up. Shoots next month will be up in the mountains. At 71 my body says take a break after 20 targets. Hiking the uneven ground is getting harder on the old bones. I wonder in how many years those of us "old guys" will be looking for 3D shoots that will accommodate those little scooters?

'those little scooters' ;-)
Terrain varies around here, from mostly flat to up-and-dowm-and-up... I prefer the flatter ones for walking but the sets are neater on the hilly courses.
The course I help set is one of the flattest, so I have to find other ways to amuse myself...excuse me, challenge the shooters ;-)

I've been to eight so far. If you count indoor 3Ds that wood make twelve. Getting ready for the Tennessee Classic. Will be walking up and down some hills there.

My preference is a course with two loops of 20. I have no interest in courses set up for billy goats.
Prefer to save my energy for hunting, not playing.
And I want a "free" drink of water somewhere in the middle. Yah, free. If the club is too broke to give a man a drink of water they should just close down.

Multiple shots per target waste time and take away from "hunting situations."
At 74 I don't want accommodation to age or physical condition. If/when I can't keep up with everybody else I'll say thanks for the good times I had when I was fit. Unless I break something I figure I'll have many more years, same as with people half my age.
Obviously clubs should provide water stations. My first serious 3D got to 105deg at Red Rocks on the Jemez Pueblo, very rugged. Three guy were carried away in ambulances before the club got smart and added a couple of water stations.
