Looking at maybe hunting Kansas whitetails this fall. What's the chance of connecting ,hunting off the ground. With no portable hunting blind?

The odds will be lower than if you sit a treestand but it can definitely be done. I've taken deer on the ground that way. I'd find a good spot with natural cover behind you, make sure to play the wind right and sit in the shadows..never sunlight. Single most important thing is to be able to sit still.

Depends completely on you and your set up. I don't hunt from tree stands at all.

I also have no reservations about taking shots beyond 17.3 yards, because I know I can make them.

That being said, as long as you do your homework, locate an area that has substantial deer sign. A natural funnel, point, crossing, something of the sort, and set up a couple of good ground blinds (you need 2 to allow for wind shift) I'd say your chances of getting a shot are very good.

I'm a nah Sayer also. They shouldn't have been hunting in a primitive weapons season!!!

In fact I'm such a nay Sayer I say the same things about compounds. LOL.

A ghille will certainly up your odds. But, make it early and get used to shooting in it. It isn't as complicated as some would lead you to believe, but you do have to ensure that you have clearance.
