What weekend is the Elm Hall shot this year ??

From: Pappy
Date: 12-Apr-17

I am sure it's the first weekend of August I am guessing the 4/5/6 August at least it always has been. Great shoot and even better bunch of folks. It is a can't miss event for me. Pappy

From: Pappy

Pappy's embedded Photo

Yep long line Ron for some very good eating.I usually go up for the week, this year from July 31 till the 6th for me. Weather is usually nice, skitters and flies can be kind of bad but a good camp fire will keep them at bay. They have a great course and like I said all the old friends I get to see plus always meet a few new ones ever year makes it well worth the drive. Pappy

OK, all you veterans of Elm Hall shoots don't have to ask, but I do. Where in the Midwest is Elm Hall?

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 25-Apr-17

15 miles or so west of Alma, Michigan. If you are not from Michigan, google Alma and it will give you an idea. It is one of the better if not the best trad shoots in Michigan. And we have some good ones.

Plus the Saturday night chow ain't bad either.

From: Pappy
Date: 26-Apr-17

Yep great place and great guys, very nice range and as was said the feed ant bad either, Jim you can meet some of them at the Classic, always have a bus load show up. Pappy

I attended this shoot for the first time last yr and loved it. While there I was told about an annual rabbit hunt held at the PRRC. I checked their website several times over the winter, but never saw any mention of it. Anybody know anything about this?

MP

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 27-Apr-17

Actually there are two annual rabbit hunts that I know of. The Michigan Bow Hunters puts one on and the Michigan Traditional Bow Hunters puts one on. There may be others that I don't know of.

From: Pappy
Date: 12-May-17

No it's an all traditional. It is mid state above Lansing near Alma MI. someone will probably come on and tell you better that I can. I just put it in my GPS and drive and don't pay much attention to where I am going LOL. It is a great time , non competitive event and for 25 or 30 bucks you can shoot your arm off on a very unique range. usually 50 or so nice targets. The Saturday nigh feed is worth admission. Pappy

We are excited to be getting 20 more new targets this year after the IBO, thanks to Twin Oaks! That will give us 40 great 3-D targets for two roving woods courses that are set up for archers that like to get off the beaten path! And PRRC (Elm hall) has completed excavation for a new target barn with planned completion before the August shoot. Looking forward to seeing old and new friends!

From: Rocky
Date: 31-May-17

I'm afraid we're all old timers now...LOL. Lots of grand kids coming up but there seems to a group of 20 -35 year olds that are missing as a whole. Compounds, crossbows, too busy with young families, maybe all of these but we need to encourage this group to participate in traditional archery. It' surely one of life's biggest and most rewarding gifts and the friendships that develop last for a lifetime. Bring someone new with you this year even if they don't have the gear and we'll surely find a bow and arrows for them to try.

From: Pappy

Pretty low key shoot, usually 300 to 400 but with the room it seems to never be crowed, it is a great time and the ranges are outstanding. Pappy

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 07-Jun-17

No doubt pappy. Even with a large number of attendees the club grounds always have room and always have some space between camps if wanted. Courses are as fun as they get anywhere. We set them up to totally replicate real hunting scenarios, some may be long shots, but that's all in fun.

Ever think about just how many arrows and arrow pieces must be on that ground after 26 years? Thousands and thousands laying around somewhere. Especially since the courses are ever evolving. You just don't often get the chance to hunt down last years losses.

Kurt there are a few guys from around Aurora and Glen Ellyn that always come up, very dear friends of mine. I think they travel about 4.5 hours. Remember, you gain an hour coming up.

If you come up, introduce yourself. I have a round face, very noticeable, goatee, mouth running usually, maybe a cigar hanging out my mouth, 6' 210#. I'll be in and out of the self bow building tent all weekend.

Have fun guys. Will there be targets in the water this year?

From: Pappy
Date: 12-Jul-17

Yep Kurt Matt always makes it. I loose an hour coming up Pearl. Usually depends on how the weather has been , if they put targets in the river or not. Pappy

From: Rocky
Date: 12-Jul-17

Hey Mike,

The water levels are up here this year so targets in the river are kind of "iffy" as of now but you can expect targets in, around or across the pond this year.

Kurt,

Use 5999 Ferris Road, Riverdale, MI 48877 for the GPS. All things like distance or travel time being equal I would take the Indianapolis route. We travel from Michigan to Twin Oaks in Tennessee and to Cloverdale in Indiana and it's pretty much a straight shot up I-69 from Indianapolis and is normally good traveling north of Indy.

Rocky

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 13-Jul-17

I agree, take 69 through Indy. Chicago is non-stop construction and always slow going for my friends.

No doubt, Chee-cago traffic is insane 7 days a week 20 hours a day.

Glad you guys are coming Kurt. We will meet you there on Thursday evening and find you a campsite. Friday night we serve brats free of charge to campers, courtesy of club members. Saturday night is a big meal for the campers and includes roast pork, turkeys, sweet corn, potatoes, fish fry, salads, cakes. We can always use fish for the fry is you have any taking up space in your freezer!

There are hamburgers and hot dogs for sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mid-day. Breakfast burritos for sale on Saturday morning and full breakfast on Sunday morning.

We'll be in Tennessee this weekend also Kurt. Picking up targets that Twin Oaks has generously made available for sale to PRRC. Maybe we'll see you there.
