who here likes statics? it seems there are not many of them compared to longbows and working recurves. I wonder why?

What are some of your favorite ones? I'd like to try one out and would like to hear some opinions from you good folks.

Kirk Lavender at Bigfoot Bow builds static tip recurves, and they are one of the finest you'll ever get your hands on.

harder to make maybe? if you can get your hands on a kwik styk from Jack Kempf fine bows maybe better cast from the lever action tip? IMO some of the R/D longbows are as fast or faster than most recurves and you can string them under your foot

Two static tips base on Asiatic models: Ming 4 by Mariner (Cinnabar Bows) 17th century Chinese, and Damascus by Lukas Novotny (Saluki cbows) Based on Crimean Tartar design.

My Asiatics- 42#@28" and 54#@28" (drawn to 30" with thumb release) are silent- not quiet, silent. No balls or other stuff on the strings. The Bears, while not silent, are much quieter than working recurves, but seem to be a little slower than my Kodiaks- fully working recurves. The Asiatics give up no speed at all.

I really liked my Sovereign Ballistik. Currently have an Eaglewing Talon II, Kempf Kwyk Styk and a Hwarang Korean bow. All three are very good bows. I think I like the Eaglewing the best, but they are all very close in fit, feel and performance for me.

From: hockey7
Date: 05-Apr-17

I'll second the Ballistik...from the grip, the riser length, speed, smoothness, and a quiet, non vibrating bow...only wish someone would resurrect them.

From: Bill C
Date: 05-Apr-17

If you are including the newer super curves I have to say I really like Morrison's Max4 limbs.

From: camodave
Date: 05-Apr-17

Jack Kempf calls his Kwyk Styk limbs semi static. He makes full static limbs for his newer Stealth takedown. Hard to beat hard to beat static tips from Abe Penner at Cari-bow.

Jon Gharing built some great static tips if you can find them. People who have Jons bows tend to keep them.

About 2 weeks ago i took delivery of my Stalker Stickbow Coyote SL with bamboo limb upgrade. This bow is great, quiet, very smooth best grip ive had to date. 45@28 and 62" long. I have been shooting a quinn stallion up til now which has been a good bow but this Stalker has gone to a whole new level. I would recommend Stalker Stickbows to anyone and I'm now sold on static recurves, I doubt i would go back to a full working curve.

RER greatbows still in production.

Another vote for Soverign Ballistiks. Smooth drawing and very fast. That's the one bow I own that I would never sell.

From: Jim Moore

Surely someone must have custody of the forms and plans of Sovereign after the bowyer passed away? Shame that no one resurrected those bows.

Yep, the Sovereign Ballistik! John built mine for me in 1994 and I don't ever plan to part with it.

Sovereign Ballistik for me too!! Had a 60", 55 lb, plus spare set of limbs that were 43 lb. The 55 lb got a bit heavy, so was using 43 lb and bottom limb came apart, so I ended up trading the 55 lb bow. I still have 60", 51 lb Trident model that is a real shooter.

Dryad has a Static recurve.

From: Woodeye
Date: 05-Apr-17

Had a Texas Recurves Comanche for years and loved shooting that little yet powerful bow not to mention its stunning looks. I sold it last year as the 60 lb. pull was getting to be a bit much for the shoulder. I miss it a little but know the. Ew owner is enjoying it as much as I did

From: Longtrad
Date: 05-Apr-17

How do statics preform with shorter draws? I'm only pulling back 26.5" so I try to stay with bows that are 60" or shorter.

An increase in speed would sure be nice but what I really am interested in testing out is the feel of the draw stroke.

From: jjs
Date: 05-Apr-17

I have a Brackenbury Peerless (Bill Howland) semi-static 58"-46#@27", smooth, quiet and quick; was one of his last models before he close down.

Here is mine. True static tips. Super curves, or any bow that the tips bend at all on, are not static. The tips have to be rigid for at least 3 " and have ample thickness in that area to prevent any bending for it to be a static.

From: Straitshot

Kevin TerMaat who originally started RER bows stated John Fazio's Sovereign bows greatly influenced his design of the RER bows. Kevin's first three piece take down recurves looked almost identical to Fazio's up to and including the static tips.

From: longdraw
Date: 05-Apr-17

I have a Sovereign Askari static tip that John made just before he stopped making bows due to his health. From what I have been told, he only made three of them. It's a 64" one piece that is extremely smooth out to my 32" draw. I also shoot a Toelke Super Static which is nice, but not quite as smooth.

From: Dean
Date: 14-Apr-17

Straitshot, I have one of Kevin's 3-Piece takedowns that you are referring to. The static tips do not seem to bend much, they are very stiff! It is the fastest bow that I own, and I own quite a few! Great bow!!!

I have 2 Ballistiks also and I have no plan to sell either. One is 53# and 62" and the other is 57# and 57"

To whoever asked about whether they work with a short draw. The answer is yes. My draw is just a hair less than 27" and I get a lot more speed from Fazio's bows than any of my others.

Of course they really smoke an arrow if you have a long draw.

Caribow Tukto Ex, RER Arroya and the CRX, Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk is semi static. South Cox and Stalker, even the Borders but they are not static as they are a working limb!! Shawn

I have has several Ballistiks and they are the standard. Wish I had the 64" 48@28 all bacteria back. I currently have a Javaman Assyrian that's a hard shooting bow for 48 pounds. Not as smooth as a Ballistik but a good bow that stands on its own.

Dryad, RER, Stalker.......all good ones.

From: Wild Bill

I just saw one of those on ebay and couldn't remember they were called static tips.

It is listed as a RARE-1954 RED/ORANGE GLASS BEAR GRIZZLY 62", 48#.

Looks like it has a rest on either side of the riser. From somewhere in Pennsylvania. Price seemed reasonable.

John Frazio built some great bows. I've got one of his personal bows I won from him, the lil 57# he killed antelope with in Wy. Bamboo limbs that flat out smoke an arrow. Never liked stringing or unstringing it. Dang limb tips...

Wagstaff Archery has a new static tip recurve limb. I really like is TD longbow, but haven't had a chance to shoot the new ST recurve . . .

My RER is absolutely the best static tip bow I have ever shot. It is the fastest and the quietest bow I have ever shot as well. It was sort of built off of the soveriegn Blistick bow.

The Sovereign Ballistiks were quick and smooth. Some of the other Sovereign models weren't nearly the same.

I like the Saluki statics with siyahs the best.

Coach A Any chance of a pic of your RER?

I have an older RER which I traded for here on LW and which shoots fantastic.

The tips look like they may be static but I have never had anybody look out to see if they bend at full draw. Great bow nonetheless !
