this is my osage bow about 56 inches pulling 50@ 25,,

I am getting ready to turkey hunt with it and wanted to show the bow in action to you wood bow fans,,,

before you start to flame me about my technique or lack of,,, it is a work in progress and I am not suggesting any one shoot like me, I am just having fun and looking forward to shooting at a turkey,,

there is another video of the close up of arrows,,,( brad shooting close up of arrows)

one arrow was cedar and the other sitka spruce in the 500 grain range,, the bow is not picky,,

Looks like a nice shooting bow, had a good thump to it. I would think a turkey would be in trouble if he was in front of you.

I hope so,, but the turkey makes me a little more nervous than the target,,:) but I am gonna give it my best shot,,,Jeffer has encougaged,,and inspired me to try a head shot,, so I am considering that if its close and my best option,, and I have been working on an arrow for that,,

From: bradsmith2010santafe
Date: 01-Apr-17

thanks Ken, it is a very quite bow,, with the right arrows and good release,, it really has a quite shot,,

You might consider your cross pieces through a metal point or shell casing and at 90° so no matter which way the arrow is rotated it will connect. It takes more patience to wait for the head/neck to be in the right position and still but it is nearly as big as the vitals and not hidden. >>>-------> Ken

I got a head shot on a turkey, wasn't shooting at the head, but that is what I hit.

That nail broadhead looks wicked! Great shooting too. I think the turkeys are going to be in trouble there.

Brad I saw your post and then realized, "It's a really nice warm (by Canadian standards) day outside" so I had to go and shoot your bow. It's around 50 F. Wow! It really is incredible. I was shooting the wood arrows out of it (the fancy painted yellow/red one) from just under 20 yards and I was thinking, man I should have been doing Rick's challenge. Yes it was shooting that well. This is a very elegant bow and for me I just love to finesse the shot with this bow. I have hardly picked it up yet just because I really didn't want to shoot it in the very cold temperatures. But wow, does it ever feel wonderful in my hands. It is so smooth. It's like eating a wonderful meal on my Grandmothers fine china with sterling. Awesome!

I can't wait to do some wing shooting with it and yes I am going to be taking this into the turkey woods with me too.

Here are some more pictures of it for everyone to see the kind of bow you build,

Jeff

Nice bow Brad. I really like those tiny tips on that one.

Technique looks fine to me. Looks consistant.

For the arrow, you may want to try some horseshoe nails. They're flat any way. It would be easy to turn them the way you want them, and then sharpen the flat sides.

Hey BRAD, If You can hit like that out in the field then no worries! Looked GOOD to me. Y'ALL STAY SAFE / WELL / COMFORTABLE & BLESSED BE! Batman

thanks Jeffer, glad you enjoying,, I think that fancy arrow is 55 60 spine cedar,, that would be a good starting point if you need more, and that one is cut a little longer I think,, that one shot well for me too on test shooting,, I hope a turkey gets in range for you,, he really will be in the danger zone for sure,, thank you for posting, lots of wood bow guys asking bout you and the bow,, I know they gonno go crazy when they get to see you and the bow in action,, enjoy that 50 degree weather,, but the bow can take below 0 if need be,, so no need to baby it,,

thanks fdp,, I will check out some horseshoe nails,, I have about a week to get ready, my ghillie suit is on the way to, Im pretty excitied about that too,,

thanks Batman, I hope I can hit in the fiel like that, I will be eating some chicken fried turkey for sure,,

thanks George I gonna need all the postive support I can get,, those turkeys can get pretty tricky for an amimal that not supposed to be that smart,, they have out smarted me most the time,, well maybe Im not as smart as I think I am,, :)

From: bradsmith2010santafe

Enjoyed that. Thanks

From: Jeffer

Brad I figured the bow could be shot in cold weather but with all due respect, I'm gonna baby this bow. It deserves it! It's like a really fine shotgun. You don't clean a fine shotgun, you fondle it.

Probably the best way I can describe how this bow shoots is "soft". Yes that's it. It is a "soft shooting" bow. Sensitive and very responsive.

From: dean
Date: 02-Apr-17

Jeffer, are we talking about bows or women here. You are almost described my wife, except for the soft shooting bow part. She gets quite a lot of energy out of her bows with her hard release.

Great looking bow and nice shooting Brad. Good hunting. Can't way to see photos of your turkey.

Nice shooting Brad. Should get the job done on the turkey. That short bow should work well in the blind. Arvin

From: bradsmith2010santafe

thank you Bendstick and ARvin,, yes the short bow should give me just a bit of an edge if I am in blind or or sitting on ground, I really want to see a photo of that turkey too,,:)
