This limb tip is in question. What could have caused this to the limb facing? Please give me your opinion. Thinking of buying this bow but a little worried. Haven't seen bow in person to far away. Thank you very much.

Here's what other tip looks like. Thanks

Looks like it's been wet.

It may be just discoloured a bit and the finish may have been worn off.Worst is its damaged and may need replacing.I would point that flaw out and seek a discount or jus look at another bow.I buy some rough looking bows and get them real cheap but I have the ability to fix most bows up too.Its your decision so good luck either way OSR

Upper or lower limb? It might have had a string keeper and held condensation. Have them take a piece of fine steel wool and see if it will buff off. Good Luck. >>>-----> Ken

Looks like mold or mildew.

Likely residual goo from a rubber string keeper...looks like it's just on the surface. I have seen it a few times.

Thanks for your input. It's a Super Diablo Bow I'm talking about.

Agrre it was either a string keeper or a limb tip protector and it held moisture. I would think it will be fine as long as you lightly steel wool and apply a good hard finish. Shawn

What I meant by residual goo was not due to moisture being trapped.

I was referring to the rubber in the tip protector breaking down with age over many years...they become cracked and soften and stick to the bow eventually, leaving just the type of residue I see in the picture.

That's an interesting point about the tip protector… I've never used them myself, but recently traded for a bow that came with one on it. Although I like this both so much that that probably won't be very often ;)

But they do make a certain amount of sense when you're in the field and want to lean the bow up against a tree or something…

The only thing is it's only on one limb.

From: cueman

It looks like left over glue residue. The picture is not really good enough to tell. Could be that it was leaned up against a car and slid across the pavement or concrete. That would damage the finish also. Does not look like anything major, some cleaning should tell you what to do. If necessary, a little sanding and some finish and you should be good to go. It may all come off and be just fine.

As a side note Buckmark, is that a diablo or a super diablo. I have never seen a super diablo with white glass. My guess is that it is a diablo. Would like to see the riser on that bow.

It is a Super Diablo with the Martin Logo on limb in white and Howatt hand written on riser in black. It is clear glass. I'm guessing early 2000? I think I am going to buy it and try fixing the bow.

Got you, was thinking it was allot earlier than that. Good luck with it, you will really like the super diablo. Have never shot one I did not like.

KPC nailed it.

Clean it up, and shoot it.

Well I purchased the Super Diablo and I will post better pictures of tip. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your opinions.

If it is the top limb it could be mold from hands on the limb during stringing. Maybe even salt from sweaty hands. No biggie either way.

Could be caused by a bow tip protector. I had a longbow that came to me with a leather tip protector. Apparently it had gotten wet and bled yellow leather dye into or through the finish. - John

Well I bought the '97 Super Diablo and looking at it in person the bow tip was from moisture, and I think I can fix it. I bought it for a great price and strung it up and feels good. Now to get to work and clean and maybe sand it down. Just don't know what finish to use. Any suggestions?
