I just finished shooting a new to me DH Super Diablo 60' 60#. I Own many bows and have owned many others and this bow out performs all of them. Dont get me wrong I still love my Schafer Silvertip but this bow rocks I now understand why so many people love this model.

I tried for a long time to buy one of those in a wht i could handle but never got one,i did get to shoot one for a while and loved it.

From: del of logan

Had one at that weight. VERY fast with fairly heavy arrows. And looks great. Loved it but a little too much weight for me so I let it go.

Beautiful bow!

Same year and bowyer as mine. Mine is #4483--479 bows after yours.

They are fantastic bows. I've never shot anything I preferred over my SD.

From: Nemah

That just might be the bow that I bought in Spokane as a college student. I hunted with it for several years, then traded it in on a Hoyt compound. I was young and stupid. Richard

sweet bow you have, I have a 44lb. like it, 2 zebra wood and 1 like dreamcatcher. love them all

I bought one new about 1971 or 72. I thought is the most beautiful bow in the world until I traded it for a Colt revolver at a New Years Eve party. I then bought another one 5 or 6 years ago and sold that one. It was too heavy for me.

I have 2 just like it , a 42# and a 50# . They shoot as good as my silvertips . They are both 3 lbs heavier than marked .

I also have one that looks just like yours, its marked 45x# ESD in cersive 3346. I'm guessing it means 46# and a 1973 model? It scales 48#@28". Great shooting bow! Also a very good looking bow. Thanks John What does the E stand for?

From: Pdiddly
Date: 28-Mar-17

jrh24-The E stands for Eldorado. Originally the Diablo had an Eldorado decal and the E designator held on for years on the Ventura and the Diablo.

In Puma's post he states that the bowyer's are the same. There is no bowyer ID on the serial number in that period.

Up to early 1961 the first number in the five digit serial number was the bowyer. From late 1961 that first digit was dropped and the bowyer number was never used again.

The OP's bow was the 4th SD made in 1974. Puma's was the 483rd.

Hope this helps...great recurves as were the predecessor Diablo's.

I am now giving a lot of thought to getting an identical one (60'and 60#) in the light colored wood with the green stripe. Brian

I should add the fact that I put a skinny string with padded loops on mine and was very impressed with the results. Seemed quieter, was for a fact faster and just shot better. I'm taking mine turkey hunting in a few weeks!! John Is that Brazilian Rosewood in the riser of the early 70,s models? Its beautiful! John

Padded loops and Hy po string and watch her boggy even more. You even should be able to see that difference too.

From: Donk
Date: 31-Mar-17

My SD reads 53# @28 ESD. 4289K amo 60". From my understand of this post this would mean it was 289th made in 74. But can anyone tell me what K stands for?

From: cueman
Date: 31-Mar-17

All of these are east indian rosewood. We still have not figured out the suffix on these bows. But they do appear on most all the super D's from start to around 72-74. I believe that somewhere in that time frame, Mrs. Pearl Chillcutt (sp?) may have retired or stopped doing the numbering and a new girl took over. You see her hand writing on a lot of the bows after about 72, every now and then you will see a 72-73 with Mrs. Pearls writing, but few and far between. When Mrs. Pearl stopped doing the writing, the prefix and suffix on the bows numbers seems to have stopped. At least on all the bows I have researched to date.

Gosh I love these bows you is a fine example John.

Hatrick, Nice bow and nice work. does that mean you can and do shoot FF?

From: brianbfree
Date: 31-Mar-17

I know know more about this bow than most of my children I do not know the persons name that filled out my kids birth cert.

From: Chas
Date: 31-Mar-17

Brian, Beauty of a bow! I shoot FF on my '64 Hunter with no issues. Make sure the loops are padded as most if not all are these days.

From: jrh24
Date: 31-Mar-17

The writing on mine is in a fancier script. It's like old style cursive. Is that Mrs Pearls signature? Just curious. It is really a great shooting bow, becoming one of my favorites. John

From: Hatrick Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 01-Apr-17

Brian, I just thought while refinishing the bow that by adding black and white phenolic tips it would serve a dual purpose. I figured they would fit well with the B/W riser overlays as well as serve as some reinforcement for high strength strings. I shoot high strength (FF) padded loop strings on older bows most of the time anyway, including several older Howatts. I'm just a fan for the way they transform a bows performance. That's a Rhino string on the SD.

The old tips will handle padded loop low stretch, but some guys like that extra visual of more protection. That is beautifully done Hatrick.

I recently bought a Super Diablo too and I couldn't agree with you more. Awesome bow !

I really liked the model that came out around 1995. I don't know how much different it was from the early models, but I think it had more mass and was certainly nice to look at. Not to mention how well it shot. Larry?
