Something about an old self bow that just won't allow thenm to get ugly. The more beat up they get the more character it seems to add which enhances their beauty in my eyes. When I see a beat up old compound bow I see junk. When I see a beat up traditional bow it kind of depends how they got beat up. Some seem to have character and some just look abused.

I also like bows that have a history and don't mind showing it. There's a huge difference between character and junk, that's for sure. Nothing simpler than an old selfbow...or even a newer one as long as they still shoot. I don't keep any for looks unless they are already past shooting condition. I have two now that are not shootable but make good cabin decor.

Kinda like a 50 year old Woolrich coat that is all beat up. You know the story behind it before you ever ask for it. A beat up KUIU isn't so impressive :)

The character of my most used and favorite selfbows makes them each one of a kind, but they were born with it... I finessed it out of them during construction, not beat it into them afterwards ;^)

Over the years I've really developed an appreciation for all things vintage, from bows to vehicles and most things in between.

Not sure why, but I think it started with Antiques Roadshow. lol

Selfbows and the men and women who make them are tough minded individualists. You had to work hard to learn the process but yet you are so willing to teach others. You have to because if you don't primitive archery as we know it will go away. Jawge
