A certain dipstick borrowed my J8 jig and clamps, as he was too lazy to go get his Bitzs out of storage. He finished up and gave me them back with glue on the clamps! That's a huge pet peeve of mine. I managed to glue fletching on 50 arrows without getting a speck of glue on my clamps, and this half blind clown actually glued the right wing clamp shut, lol! I got a super thin blade in one side of the clamp and easily opened it back up, but I think anyone who is so sloppy and careless should be tarred and feathered, publicly flogged and paraded about. He won't be using my J8 again. Anyway, am I the only one here with that pet peeve? Are there other dipsticks in the forum who glue their clamps or those belonging to others shut? I ended up getting the clamps pretty clean, so all is well, but I still had to say something. I plan to take it easy on the culprit, as he really is half blind and should be in a nursing home, not out shooting bows and fletching arrows.

I do get glue on mine sometimes, it usually happens when too much is put on the feather. It's a Jo- Jan, all steel, and I just carve it off with a knife. Other brands made of plastic or aluminum may be damaged doing this. No excuse for returning a borrowed item like that though. MP

Dipstick probably was following your own advise on eating 'weed' and so it all comes back I reckon!

Dino- That's great! That's exactly what I think should be done to these glue-challenged dipsticks!
Skeets- I'll take your advice.
bodyman- I didn't hear of this. I think I'm the only one nice enough to lend a mint condition fletching jig and clamps to a dipstick who can't see and glued the clamp together. Post the thread if it happened to someone else and you can find it.

I think the reason I feel tarring and feathering is a proper punishment for the dipstick (MTQuiver) is it involves glue and feathers. That must be why I thought of it, lol! I just read about the process, and it did involve parading the victim around, lol!

The tar caused burns and could be fatal.
I never lend tools, I will build it for you, but I won't lend tools. I have these chisels, and the most expensive one could cost 350 each. They are works of art. So I had a guy come to take out the oil tank in the basement. He takes one of these extremely high end chisels, and uses it as a cold chisel on some bolts. Left it with a big chip. Like someone using your Don Adams longbow to start a fire. People who don't pay for their own stuff have no idea about how it should be used, or how you would use it.
That said, a J8 is some nasty cheap gear.

I take offense to that insult on my J8! MT claims it's a better fletcher than a Bitz!
The tar was usually pine tar and did not burn. It was meant to humiliate the victim. I think we should bring it back as a form of punishment for various offenses.

Putting 'just enough' glue on the feather is a skill unto itself.
I'm currently trying Gorilla Glue gel super glue, and it's a bit 'slow' to come out of the bottle but I get just enough to be neat.
The borrower should have cleaned your jig, tho'.

They "tarred and feathered" a guy in my fraternity house one time. They used molasses and opened up a feather filled pillow on him. I think they put Ben-Gay in his underwear too.

Open up that wallet and buy a roll of Teflon tape. Wax works but it's messy as well. I have tape on my Blitz clamps. When it gets loose I just replace it. I ca not speak about the plastic jigs, but it seems to me glue, especially super glue, and plastic are a mess I would like to avoid.

Put metal clamps in the freezer over night-oh yeah, frisky has the deer with Dunlop tracks filling his freezer. For others, a night in the freezer will have most adhesives flaking off easily. Plastic, not so much.

Hasn't anyone realized why they get glue on the clamp !!!!!! Its because your using WAY too much glue. You only need a glue line that is about half the width of the feather quill. A little common sense goes a long way.

I imagine I am exposing myself as a blasphemer here but my failing eyesight and lack of time to hang around watching glue dry has led me to the use of fletching tape.
Nice byproduct of my distinct lack of patience with liquid fixative is avoiding this tragedy specifically.
And of course now that I type it I see that 'tape' is a 4 letter word...
I apologize everyone if Phil kills this wonderful and illuminating thread based on my use of profanity-
