If I go out randomly stumping in my yard, I break and lose arrows (rocks and sloped ground!) so I use bag targets for that.

I have a part of my yard where there aren't a lot of rocks and I want to throw out some little targets to aim at in the grass (not to catch arrows). I could use Judos, but usually just use field points in the area I am planning to use. Ping Pong ball sized is good.

Any ideas on something that is easy to see, clean up (won't leave fragments every where), won't ruin arrows or the lawnmower? I have damaged fletchings shooting old footballs and soccer balls. Oh yeah...I don't want any ricochets.

I cut up an old 3D deer target into small sections and threw them out in my woods for targets most are 6 x 6

green are orange tennis balls and use a blunt when hit it will send the ball some where else for the next unknown shot. I use three balls. when I retrieve arrows I try my next shot from that spot.

I keep a Rinehart ball about 15 yards in front of my big target so I can shoot it after pulling arrows or I can take a shorter shot at the ball followed by a 20-30 at my big targets,

The reason I want some small ground targets is that when you always shoot the same targets, you learn where to hold on them and it gets too easy. Random surroundings and a small target mixes it up for you.

I'll try some small foam. My wife already doesn't complain about the trash bag targets scattered around out back :)

I just use paper cups myself. You can shoot one a bunch before it's really wasted. Then I wad them up to make them smaller. of course you should pick them up after. If you hit one with the lawn mower just keep running over it till its gone:)

You can buy hot pink racquetballs online for $5 a tube. I bought a couple and they are awesome.

Fallen leaves work good and they're CHEAP.

I use emptied water bottles (bottled water) a lot. The cheap ones (the plastic is sooo thin) deflection is not a problem.

I place em in trees and bushes and on the ground for squirrel practice

They don't last long (if you hit them) they don't break into pieces and I replace as needed.

Wiffle ball golf balls.

Just FYI, I have at least once topped a tennis ball such that I got a ricochet... Arrow arced up to about head height and covered another 40 yards or so.

Left quite an impression - fortunately, not on anybody's forehead.

We used to get butterscotch wafer candy that was about the size of a 50 cent piece. It made great disposable breaking targets for a .22. You might want to spray paint them for bow targets. If they are still available of course, and if you do not start eating them. They are very tasty.

I did this once. except it headed into the neighbor's yard that had a 6' wood fence around it. lucky the kids weren't out. I always made sure the kids weren't out playing with a shot anyway. unlucky that I had to ask for permission to get my arrow. we didn't talk for some time afterwards.

I have learned my lesson with Tennis Balls. I've had arrows ricochet and go another 30-40 yards especially when shooting longer distances.

These will be more in the 10 -15 yard range for safety and to prevent losing them in the grass.

I love the rubber duckies. Might have to run to walmart

Me and the kids like to shoot at those golf ball size wiffle balls, can be found cheap plenty of bright colors to choose from and pretty tough to boot. Another plus is if one is lost and hit with mower not much to worry about.

I quit tennis balls. They would bend my arrows in the first few inches and I broke one cedar in them. I now use a wad of grocery bags with some cheap electrical tape wrapped on them.

Here is a pic of mine. I compost so I pick up all my neighbors leaves and use the bags for targets. If you use cheap electrical tape and a light colored bag it gives more variegation, thus more spots to choose. You'd be suppressed at the density. Almost like a rinehard. With a 50 cent roll of tape I can make 8.

Like you said in your op, ping pong balls.

But wiffle balls have target spots on 'em....

And they can take a few hits, though this one went through the loop where I tied it onto the string...

From: JustSomeDude

Nice!

I hsve a bunch of blue electrical tape and white bags....ANd I don't even NEED it to catch arrows but that is a bonus.

I like the 'pool noodle' idea. Lots of possibilities.

From: PeteA

There is a $5 and Less store near me that sells these foam yoga rolls. They are like pool noodles but larger diameter and no hole. 5" diameter x 30" long. They are made of a pretty dense foam. If you cut one up you can get 6 targets out of it.

A buddy of mine made me a nice knock a block stand. It's a 12" 4x4 post mounted to a base. A piece of industrial velcro I'd attached to the post. He cut a 6" x 9" x 2" thick foam block. Glued velcro to the bottom of the block. The block then is a fixed to the post. You shot at it with judos and knock the foam block off the post. It's a lot of fun to get the action of knocking the block off on a good hit.

I just picked up a three pack of Shooter 3D small game targets ($80...not free!). These will be 'recurve unaided' targets. Especially if I dont put up a backstop.

From 15 yards :)

It's windy here quite a bit and after trash day I find plenty to shoot here on our place. Our neighbors mow their acreage and nothing sticks, but I leave the terrain in its natural state for the wild critters. Every few weeks I pick up a garbage bag full of 'targets'.

Remember shooting at empty cigarette packs in camp when we drove cars and bubba trucks with three on the column. Not too many of those targets around now.

Usually, the dollar stores will have quite a variety of small soft foam toys, and soft foam balls of all kinds. They make excellent targets, and usually are no more than a buck or two each.

If you have tennis courts in your area (city owned, schools, subdivisions, etc.) look around the perimeter of the facility you should find an unlimited supply of tennis balls for free!!
