Was involved in one last year. I've mixed emotions. Arvin

Done some great trades with some great folks. Have a KMag coming right now. I cannot recall a trade I was not pleased with. The devil is in the details.

I have done it a few times. If it's a bow you want and are familiar with and its about the same value, why not. You can ask for more pics of it to make sure it is in quality form like you want.

Hi Arvin. Do you mean bowyer swaps? I've never done it. I just don't have any interest in that. Others surely make better bows than I do, but I prefer to make and use only my own hunting gear.

If you mean production bows instead? Same answer ;^)

If you have to trust pics you are asking for trouble. Easy to leave issues out of pics. You need to trust people.

The good thing about a swap is that you can wind up with a new bow AND a new friend.

I have done a few on here. Been happy each time with the trade.

From: muddyIA

I've been happy with dozens and dozens of trades here on the wall. Lots of pictures, lots of communication, and a phone call or two will alleviate all concerns.

it helps if you trade stuff you no longer want. I you still want it ,find something else to trade...ron

From: Keith

I have not made any trades yet. seen stuff I'm interested in but never have what their looking for, but I agree with Dave, I would rather take their word on the condition of the item.

I was speeking of bow build trades as seen on another forum . Arvin

I approach them with trepidation. But have yet to be hornswoggled.

I seldom sell or trade but i have swapped just because someone else wanted something and it didnt matter too me which bow or bear item i had in the deal !!!

Seems like you have a long history here Arvin. 8-11-11 is your first post. Short of a phone call I would do some trading with you. What ya got?

From: PEARL DRUMS

I stay clear of them nowadays.

Ok I Don't know how to say it with out stepping on someones feelings but I will try. I was involved in a bow trade build last year. Sounded like a hoot. The guy that I built for got a fine shooting Osage bow 165-170 fps. The guy that built for me sent a hickory 48# bow that shot about 135-140fps. That was ok . We are all at different skill levels. The fact that it arrived two months after the trade was over was not. I understand this was not about getting a better bow than I built but maybe meet a new friend. Neither happened. So I have mixed emotions. I don't know that I would do another one . Arvin

Trades between builders of near equal experience are probably a good thing. But those forum style trades don't guarantee you will get trades from an individual at your level. Probably best to communicate with individuals and set up trades that way. Of course, if they say no, ...

I think he means bowyers to bowyers trade.

Yes whittler .

Arvy I suggest simple two-bowyer swaps. I'm sure you have a "list" of bows you'd like on your rack for various reasons. We all do.

I do not build bows, yet. I have made some great bow trades with fellow leatherwaller's. I have one on the way now.

what Pearl Drums said... I have done a few one on one trades and will always keep those bows that were made by people I respect in our community. My first trade was with my friend JD Jones... man did he get the short end of the deal.. :)

I traded green Grayling bows with someone here who really wanted one in the weight I had. I made the trade and mine turned out to be in better shape than his. No big deal there. But mine had a brand new string, silencers and side plate and beat hair rest. I was a bit disappointed when his arrived with no string... I should have asked more questions. It cost me money to order a new string for a a bow that I only traded for because he really wanted it in the weight I had.

They were both identical Kodiak Mags

" hornswoggled". Now there's a word you don't see as often as you would like.

From: Bob W.

I'm getting better at building primitive bows but still have not signed up for any trades, I'm more worried about pleasing the guy that gets mine, not worth the stress right now. I would be happy to have a bow built by Arvin. If any of you primitive bowyers out there see any of my finished bows posted and would like to swap let me. Bob W.

I don't buy, sell, give or trade any bow until I have it in my hands. My funds are fixed and mean a lot to me and my wife.

Now I have accepted donated bows for archery ranges that we have set up on military bases and bows for kids for give aways but I always tell the giver that we use them if they are good enough to use as we don't want any one to get hurt.

From: Arvin

I have given some away to friends , donated to causes for raffle or auction and such. That's part of life. We have to give back to our sport, hobby, or just about anything in order to receive. That is the way God ment it I think. Arvin

Some go good and some don't. I can only remember 1 that didn't wasn't satisfied with bow but did the trade anyway and din't say anything.

I felt I have enough bows its good the other fellow got what he wanted. That's all that mattered at the time.

The guy loved the bow so mush and raved about it I didn't have the heart to ask for my bow back. I have to tell you though when I see some of these trades being offered I chuckle when I think does guy really know what he has and what he is asking for?LOL

Who in their right mind would trade for the offer and give up whats being asked for.

I guess when you factor other things in then things work out.

I guess just do the deal!LOL

Experienced number of great trades & trades plus cash for anything & everything i may want. But, i have too much stuff bows included. Real important that i dont take advantage, so, ordinarily ill add something unexpected to smooth the edges.

Not long ago i got a great 83# Maulding from Dan Pekrul in Michigan. Part of the trade was an as new hill style bq id recd in another trade long ago (which i never inspected). Bottom line, worried about that trade since. When i find another suitable affordable bq, ill likely send it to him. This great bow is spotless!

Point, no need to be deceitful in any way for anything. Most trad users here are especially trustworthy or better. MOF, thats the ONLY way i could have ever owned Steiner binocs! ~Big thanks again bud for these!

I've only traded low price ILF limbs long distance, I wouldn't do a complete bow unless I was in same area with other bow owner and could test shoot bow

I used to trade bows like people change socks. I have traded for well over 100 bows and if you count the ones I traded cash for well over 150 bows in the last 15 years. Never had an issue with a trade, I mean it was my decision, no one twisted my arm. I have made some good and bad trades over the years. I really regret a Norm Johnson blacktail that I traded away. Yeah if ya ain't got spare money it a great thing. There are some rouge traders out there though.I received an offer the other day to get something for free. For me it didn't feel right so I offered to pay what it was worth .The person said that that was unecessary. He did how ever tell me it if it made feel better I could make some items for him.Thats a win win all round I would say.
