Bought a 66" longbow blank from Old Master Crafter. Jim Belcher now owns Old Master Crafters and they sell this longbow blank for 100.00. A great value in my opinion. It would be impossible to buy the lams and the glue for that price. Not to mention the time and expense of building a Form.

Laying out the centerline

I think I'm going to go fire up the popcorn popper… This should be a fun one to watch!

Centerline is marked. Now time to lay out rough demensions recommended by omc. No directions come with this blank so I asked for starting measurements at fades, mid limb, and tips.

Wow....a hundred bucks. He should sell a pile of those.

I don't see any at their website for $100.00. They start at $199.00.

I only saw them starting at $199.00 as well, is there a reason yours was cheaper?

I bought mine off of old master Crafters sight. It's linked to sky archery. The are 100 untilerred. 145 tillerred. They also have a recurve and a youth recurve blank

They are there longbow $100.00 recurve $160.00 like the recurve too.

Give us some specs., wood type, glass, tips, length, weight, etc. golly do I gotta beg or what? John

Holy cow! I was ot OMC's website on Monday and they were $100 and $160 and now they are $199 and $240. Crap I should have ordered a few earlier.

As far as specs, this is black glass with maple lams. Bubinga riser. 66" long with a target weight of 35@28.

George it looks like we're a few days late, that was cheaper than I can buy materials.

Roughed out on the bandsaw and sanded to the lines on the belt sander.

Okay, no problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. 8^).

Yessir Buddy, that was dirt cheap.

Cut some shallow string grooves to check weight and tiller

Strung it up.

Checked the draw weight. Should come in nicely as I smooth out the edges.

Getting ready for the overlays. Black micarta. Roughed up the glass at the tip with some 120 grit.

Check for dry fit

Couple steelhead we invited to dinner.

Are these the same blanks 3 Rivers is selling for $145?

Area below tips masked with tape to keep stray epoxy off. Also gives me a guide when everthing is slipping around. Tips glued with devcon 2 ton epoxy. All wrapped in plastic to keep the epoxy off stuff I don't want glued

Immyelement, they do appear to be the same blanks. I think the ones for 199 at OMC are the Tillered version, bit I may be wrong.

That's gonna' make a dandy bow I do believe. Really nice looking braced profile.

Took off the clamps. Trim off excess with bandsaw

Get them a bit closer on the belt sander

Not quite enough meat in the grip for the handle style I prefer.

Looking for a grip profile closer to this.

Have a piece of black walnut to glue on the heel. Wish I had something for an accent stripe.

Enter some black jeans that don't fit anymore

The micarta tips came with the bow and were pre cut. So no leftovers for the riser

A few layers of denim slathered in epoxy.

Top it off with the black walnut and clamp it down

Looks like the same blank. If your thinking of ordering I wouldn't wait too long. OMC s price went up so I would think 3R will follow.

Interesting, I've been building my blanks from 7 Lakes Archery, they cost more but come with the arrow shelf and limbs all cut out, shaped and tillered, with your choice of grip design. PS If you are going to do more than one of these. Lay out your pattern on a piece of .050 glass and cut it out. That way you can just lay it down the center of a uncut blank and get a repeatable pattern.

R-man, I got busy with work and had to put this project on a back burner... Hoping to work on it some more this week. On the bright side, business is good!

I just checked OMC and the longbow now sells for $249.95. By the time you finish it will be worth 3 times what you paid for it... LOL. It looks great so far!

On April 13th last year I went into the hospital having a heart attack. I had been having them for a couple weeks prior, and believe it or not, Tums didn't cure it. Anyway, I'm still here and I am back at it. Will post a few pics later today.

Cut out, shaped and rough sanded the grip and shelf.

Narrowed up the tips and feathered the edge of the phenolic overlays. I'm about as far as I can go with the Sanders. Time for elbow grease and sandpaper

Pretty neat.......can't wait for more.
