This morning I shot skinny Easton Carbon One shafts w/XS Wing Vanes ("spinnies" like spin wings) a dozen times off 60# Sentman Carbon Deluxe LONGBOW's hard/tiny leather shelf:

Zero damage or sign of wear. Wind was blowing fairly hard (20mph plus) which had little effect on the skinny shafts and spinnies.

I built these arrows for eventual 30 round target competition with my old Hoyt Gold Medalist but they may also become my standard 3D arrows after I get used to their screaming flat trajectory.

Don't know how they would relate to wind plane with broadheads...other than that they may be the ultimate.

One other question might be how the spinnies relate to a soft or furry shelf/plate...I suspect I'll replace the velcro and Bear Hair on other bows with hard leather.

Dang it John how do you pull 60#s? I put some curly vanes (similar to spinwings) on some 2613 aluminums and they flew well just weren't durable on those big shafts. I'll have to try them on some blackhawk acc's that I have.

Galen, I pull them 60 poundezez the same way I pull my Fazio bow's 53# (our recent 3D).

The fletching tape that comes with XS vanes seems about as sticky as the Fletch Tape that I use on "normal" shafts...and that stuff's pretty rugged. With a litte practice XS tape is a little easier to work with than Fletchtape. Hint: to remove backing Xacto #11 (small pointy blade).

...the question should be "why do you pull 60#?"

Best answers are a) I have 60# bows and money is short b) I like the exercise and the sense of power b) I'm nutz.

Nutz I understand. LOL. Before the side effects of the cancer drugs I enjoyed shooting 65#. Now I'm thrilled to pull 52#. I tried the curly vanes with the acc arrows but they're too stiff. I'm going to do some handyman work next week so I'll pick up a half dozen 3D shafts to try them on. The 420 gr accs are clipping along at 195 fps at my draw length. Looking at light weight fat carbons to put the vanes on. Do you have any shoots you're going to?

Galen...why fat arrows? As line-cutters? I've gone the other way, skinny arrows (but I'm not entirely sold).

The only NM 3D schedules I have at the moment are SCBA club's and "other" ... Charles Arviso sponsors the Spirit Canyon...I've got to email him to ask what else he knows on the Navajo...probably Krooked Arrow mid-summer at Narbona Pass.

I'm sure somethings upcoming in Santa Fe but wasn't able to get details last time I tried...3Ds are open to public but the range is otherwise restricted to members ($$)

March 4 & 5 I plan to go to the two-day Buck Lewis outside Tucson AZ.. (airbnb.com (cheaper than motel..don't want to desert camp)
