A month or so ago someone mentioned high performance limbs fo bear td Does anyone remember or know the name of the manufacturer. Thanks.

Rose Oaks if you can get a set used they aren't being mad any longer. I have had others that aren't being made as well any more.

I did not like the coverts Mack # 5 I think they were either and really weren't as fast as some of the others. Skinny strings will give you some better performance also.

Kirk from Bigfoot Bows makes some longbow limbs for Bears. Maybe he does recurve limbs too?

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 20-Feb-17

Yeah he did some RC limbs

From: Archer
Date: 20-Feb-17

Thanks I'll look into all the above. Longbow limbs that sounds interesting.

Find a set from Blackcreek bows if you can. Smokers for sure! I believe Jim Gainey is the bowyers name. Shawn

I think Border was making some super smoking hot recurve limbs for them.

Kirk hangs out at B Stahls site

From: RymanCat

The borders are the ones I didn't like to much sweep in tips was hard for me to string. Had a set of Gaineys they were great limbs.

From: Archer
Date: 20-Feb-17

Ya I went and checked borders hex limbs they look pretty radical. I would imagine they would be tougher to string up.

From: M60gunner
Date: 20-Feb-17

Kirk's limbs are good, I have a set of his first 5 sets he made. These were all recurve limbs. He did request my riser to match both of them up. Mine are glass and wood. But the design of the limbs is meant for performance. I went up in spine from my OEM limbs.

I was a Grayling Bear guy all the way until I got a 2003 Takedown. The red tip limbs with Fury string are as fast as any limbs I have owned. Quiet too.

Kevin Termaat RER used to. He sold out to some guys in MT, so look for their add.

Just get some new Bear limbs and get a good quality string like Fury or BCY-X. Don't know what kind of performance you're looking for, but that is pretty potent combination. Fred killed everything from pheasants to elephant with his Bear limbs and Dacron string.

I have Paul Schafer limbs on an A riser. Very very impressed. Soon to have Rose Oaks both are over 70#. Will see. Rooty

I have a few set's from Brandon also a few set's from Dave Windauer All nice limbs. You might want to try Dave if Brandon quit making them.

I use Rick Barbee influence in my Rhino strings. Rooty

Well at least I'm not lacking options thanks for all the good information

The bear bow I have is b riser with #3 limbs 43#@28 I pull 29" and my digital scale tells me I'm at 45# For me it's my perfect hunting set up. But for our club shoots it falls a little short on one of our targets. It's an uphill 70yard walk up,with low limb trees. So I need to flatten the trajectory of the arrows. I'm shooting full length 400 carbons with--125 grains up front. I'm trying to keep the pull weight under 47#. So that's why I'm looking for a little more performance. I thought some hot rod limbs with a similar draw weight might do the trick.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 21-Feb-17

I agree with DDave the new red tips are excellent limbs

From: Medicare Bhtr
Date: 21-Feb-17

Archer, another approach to flattening your trajectory for that 70 yard shot would be a lighter arrow. GT 600 fl with 100 or lighter tip. Less expensive than custom limbs.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 21-Feb-17

I agree with the 600 carbons for flatter trajectory. If you go with a 30" .600, and a 125 grain tip, that thing should be like a laser. I would also consider a good quality low stretch string like Fury, Rhino or BCY-X.

From: Archer
Date: 21-Feb-17

Ok fellas I'll give the lighter arrows a try. I already have the fury string on the rig. Thanks.

I turned all my older Bear TD limbs into high performance limbs by putting low stretch strings on them. They shoot surprisingly well and quick. High performance enough for me.

Like Dave and nolz, I've had a few sets of the "new" Bear limbs. They are much, much quicker and more quiet than the old Grayling limbs. I'd guess if you're looking get "high performance" limbs, you're going to pay a lot and get very little in return.

The New red tip Bear limbs are the Best and quickest limbs i have ever used and i shoot a bear Takedown 99.9 % of my shooting time & hunting i have shot alot of custom limbs Not better not even as good in my opinion !!!

Nice Riser HBK

From: Archer
Date: 21-Feb-17

Lol that would seem like the best solution but I would be arrested as it's on federal land Believe me I would be a hero if I did lots of shooters are troubled by the same problem. But I tryed the lighter arrows and I think I'll make it next time my point on went from 40 yards to 50 ,so much flatter trajectory. Should clear those limbs.

Hbk I have the red tips unfortunately I've never owned any of the older styles so I have nothing to compare them to. But I can tell you it's one of my most accurate bows I own. This is a picture of a walk back I shot at home from 10 ,20,30,40,50,and60 yards. Now I can't do that every time but its nice to know the bow can.

Got an e-mail from Keith Chastain (Wapiti) in response to aftermarket Bear limbs...said he makes them, but they can be kinda pricey

WhTs wrong with the Bear limbs?

From: Danny
Date: 08-Mar-17

I have always thought The Bear takedown latch system is the best out there. You can build aftermarket limbs.I could build a limb form and make a set to fit my A - Riser but not to the close tolerances Bear builds them. But why even try buy some Grayling limbs, narrow them and put on micarta tips, way cheaper and easier. No one copies the A@B riser because Bear wisely wont sell there latch system.Myself I don't want aftermarket limbs.

I've shot Bear T/D's since 1970 and have tried different limbs. My best for smoothness and speed were from RER, however I only have one set left as they have a tendency to break. Just this last week I was given to try a new set of #1 Bears, slim with red tips. They aren't like the old ones at all! They are as smooth as any I've shot at 30 1/2 draw on an A riser. I didn't shot them through a cronograph but seemed plenty fast. My next set will be Bears.

Vic Berger shot an 899 out of 900 indoor in competition using Bear's limbs on his C-riser takedown. Seems the accuracy may be there just waiting for the archer. It's not a Bear takedown without Bear limbs, but that's just my thoughts.

Archer...that is some good shooting on the walk-up.

From: lonfitz

I agree with Camo Dave and George. You simply cannot beat the new red tips with fast flight string and can get them quick when ordering.

From: Cameron Root
Date: 08-Mar-17

I have a set that beats them easily in the fit and finish department. Don't know on red tip preformance cause there not available in 70#. Green tip 70# not near as good. Rooty

Anyone have pic of those high performance limbs Lito look at them. Thanks

From: Orion Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 08-Mar-17

I dunno. I have a half-dozen Bear A and B risers in wood and magnesium and the same number of sets of limbs. All but one set of limbs are old white and red tips. I also have one set of new black and red tip limbs. WhenI put a fast flite string on my old white tips, I can't tell any difference in performance between them and the new black and red tips of the same weight and length. Maybe a chrono would show some differentiation, but I sure can't tell the difference.
