Got a message from Shifty concerning Tim Meigs. I own two of his bows and wonder if anyone has any info on his whereabouts and how to contact him. He made 3 longbows for me, one which took a fatefull trip on the top of a pickup cap. I know he retired but that was the last I heard from him.

Tim was in Carson City Nevada he's probably still there. I shot his longbows almost 40 years ago, he's got to be in his 90's now, the last of the old time greats.

Maybe contact this club. Someone there might be able to assist.

Ask aromakr or Larry Hatfield. If anybody knows they do.

Lawdy:

Tim has recently had some health problems and was hospitalized for a short time. He has now closed the business and is living with his granddaughter. There is not contact information available at this time.

Bob is right. Tim has had several health problems in recent years. He did not answer his business phone as he sat in his truck most days. He had some hand problems earlier, but now has some other issues. His booming laugh could be heard all over a range. Easy guy to like. I own two of his bows, too.

I never met him but talked with him and his wife a lot on the phone. His bamboo longbows will go with me to the grave. They are virtually all I have bowhunted with since 1985 when a Meigs #54 bamboo longbow replaced an old lemonwood longbow that broke. I was hoping to tell him what a killer his #46 bamboo became over the last 25 years. The best bow I have ever shot. Thanks guys.

I visited him two years ago, was in the area working. An extremely charming and personable man. It was the end of the day but he still spent time with me and talked plenty. I was going to purchase a bow he had on hand, but life got in the way. Later when I tried to contact him, nothing. Thanks for this thread, it kinda answers a few questions. I remember leaving his shop and wishing there was a young apprentice or two that would come to him and continue on. Life can be bittersweet. Matthew

Tim's shop was on KitKat Lane in Carson City. When I would visit him we would joke about "one stop shopping; get your archery supplies at Tim's and your clock cleaned down the street. He was a staple at a lot of our local shoots but failing health has indeed kept him absent.

I traded for one of his bows several years ago with the agreement that if ,after two weeks, one of us didn't like the bow we had we would trade back. Unfortunately he didn't like my bow so the Meigs bow went back. One of the best bows that's ever been in my hands.

John, most do not understand that Kit KAT Lane hosts legal brothels for Carson City. Tim likes that joke

Tim told me years ago that if I ever got to Carson City to look for the red lights. His shop was right there.

I was at my mother-in-laws house in Car City a few yrs ago and i called Tim for directions to his shop,he said just get on Hwy 50 and go east to Mound House and look for the signs for the Cat House, great guy and very interesting to talk to.

We used to see Tim at the Fresno Archer's traditional shoot every November. He hasn't made an appearance for at least five years. Neat old guy.

Tim had an apprentice, Mitch Sowell (sp), that did come back to do what he could to ship a bow or two and get business stuff straight.Think he has returned to Hawaii now. I really miss Tim. We made the trek to the Safari's together for years and were like brothers from different Mothers. But, we all seem to age!

I've known Tim (Mr. Meigs was my Daddy!!) Meigs for over 25 years. Shot with him, shared a campfire at many a rendezvous and flat-out laughed my sides off with him. For those who don't know Tim, who've never had the pleasure of meeting him, shooting a round or just shootin' the breeze with him, realize at once that he isn't just a great Ambassador of Archery... Tim is a National treasure. I own two of his custom longbows. They aren't set up for fastflight. And, that's just fine with Tim. He is one of the "last of the breed"; a man who was "old school" before old school was considered cool. Archery - and those of us who've known and shot or hunted with him - are blessed to have men such as this connected with our sport. A tip of the hat to the venerable Mr. Meigs... Shoot Straight, rare breed

I have a bow Tim started on for me but Mitch finished. Mitch will be continuing building Tim's models in Hawaii. He did a great job with mine.

Tim is an excellent man. I first met Tim probably 40 years or more ago. He was always at state archery tournaments in Nevada when I was a youngster. Whenever you heard a bunch of guys leg- slap laughing, you knew tim was close by. My dad knew him through HH and got reintroduced to him when TJ Conrads and Larry Fischer would sponsor those trad gatherings in Boise. They yakked it up a ton the two times I got to take my Dad with me.

Last saw him up in Jarbidge, Nevada a couple of years back. Ran into him fly fishing on the Bruneau while taking a break from deer hunting. Saw him a bit later at the Outdoor Inn up there while I was knocking back an ice cold frosty beverage. I do beleive Tim was sipping on a Coors.

Sure hope he gets better. As mentioned, he is a treasure. Prayers he regains his health.
