Should be getting my new to me Thunderstick III in the next few days. It is 45@28, I have about a 28.5 draw length. Was wondering what arrows I should start with? I will be shooting Zwikey Eskimos. I have some Easton 2016's, and 2018"s, along with some Gold Tip 400's and a few other aluminums of various spines. What would y'all recommend? Grits

I would think that all but the 2016s would be too stiff. But I'm not the resident expert on this. I'm sure you will get more info shortly. MP

figuring your draw I would guess on a arrow 29 1/2 or 30" so the 2016 should work good

Well.....it depends. If you are going to shoot arrows that are 29.5" BOP, either the 2016 or 2018 either one will work. Then there is the issue of what are you going to have on the sight window? How far will you have it from center? WHat kind of string are you going to shoot? Dacron or a low stretch amterial?

Now, that also is dependent on how you "tune". I don't tune arrows, I tune the bow, so there's that.

The GT's are going to be way stiff I would guess.

CAn't spek to your other aluminmums, because you didn't say wht they are.

here is a clearer chart these are more trad. friendly then eastons new ones. I shoot 45#@ my 27" draw arrow 29' 160 gr. 2016 off of old person with b-50 string and it bare shafts good.

In carbons I would be leaning towards .600

.600 with 175 up front full length to begin with. Would be my suggestion.

I'd play with the 2016's that have a spine of .531. And then I'd do what JustSome and ky hunter suggest.

What kind of tip weight do u prefer??? For carbons u need 500 spine full length and about 125gr tip for best flight

Ah! why don't you try shooting what you have and see what works best!! We use to call that experimenting. It really works and is part of being an archer!!!

What Bob (aromakr) said...try what you have.

I bet your bow will like the 2016's with 125 up front.

I've had very good success with 2016s 30 to 30.5 in, 145 gr points out of my 44lb LB as well as my 44 and 46 lb recurves. Arrows are fletched with three 5 in. LW feathers and total arrow weight comes in at about 500 to 510 gr.

If you're not sure where to begin, I would try Lancaster, because they sell shafts one at a time and you can put together whatever kind of a test kit you want... of course, they might not have every size that you'd like to try...

I got a test kit from Wapiti and have been experimenting a bit myself… A 50 spine - full length - was way too weak, so I shortened it a few times to 29 inches, and it seemed about right... but I'd rather come out at 27.75- 28 inches on arrow length. So then I tried a 42 and started it out full length just to see what would happen, figuring it would be all over the place… And the sucker went straight down range!

Wasn't able to film it slow-mo, so I'm not as sure of what's happening as I'd like to be... kind of wondering if I might have hit a node or something, where it's So Wrong that it looks Right. Now cutting down 'til it shows me something...

But how cool is it to have a device in your pocket that lets you do a frame-by- frame analysis of your arrow flight in really slow motion and then ask anybody in the world for their opinion? I love low tech, but man.... Ain't Dat Sumpin'!!
