I picked up this Diablo on the auction site from a seller with a great snese of humor just because I haven't had a Damon Howatt in my small rotation for a few years.
From Larry Hatfield's input on several other Diablo threads, I'm guessing from the way the multiple wood and fiberglass laminations are used in the riser, the serial number is written and the draw weight is stamped into the sight window and the Cavalier silk screen over the red-brown limbs, that this is probably a 1960-61 bow, but this is the first Diablo I've seen or remember reading about that is only 54". Has anybody else seen these, or have a more definitive date of creation.
Mr. Hatfield is fond of adding to his posts on DH bows that if they shoot straight and hard, he probably made it, so this one must be another of his.

The Diablo's were made in both 54" and 58". They began making them in 1958 and then dropped them (I think it was 1964) as they were making the Hi-Speed in the same length.
I have a 54" as well.
That bow was made in 1960 as they started putting the specs on the limb in 1961.

It's a 1959, I believe. Made before I started working there.

Just checked some of Larry's past remarks that I saved and I was mistaken on when they built these bows.
They built the Diablo from around 1958 to 1960. It was revived from 1963 to 1965 then dropped as they were building the Hi-Speed.
Here's a picture of my Diablo. I believe is a 1963. It has a knife edge and is a looker like Mark's bow.
