Darren, I'll be there as usual, but Nancy won't be able to make it. Farmland is such a great place to shoot, and I'm glad we will be having the shoot there again! Counting their trad shoots, it's nice to be able to shoot there three times a year instead of two!

@clydebow I'm sorry to hear that Nancy won't be coming with you this year. Will you be bringing Joshua? I'll be there on Thursday if you want to come a day before it starts.

From: tradlongbow
Date: 12-Jan-17

Hi Mac, There's 2 qualifying courses that need to be shot before 3pm on Saturday. Score cards needs to handed in on Saturday by 3pm. On Sunday archers will pickup their score card at 8am and start shooting at 8:30am.

The good news is everyone shoots on Sunday! If you can't stay and shoot on Sunday that's okay but you will be missing the Championship round.

Julie and I plan on coming to this and have it on the calendar. Couple questions. Is there an itinerary yet? Also, on the team event can my wife and I make up a team? Lastly, on the broadhead event are there any special rules re. the broadheads or arrows? Regards

From: TC209X50
Date: 30-Jan-17

If you shoot the two prior courses this qualifies you to shoot in the championship shoot on Sunday correct?

From: tradlongbow
Date: 30-Jan-17

@TC209X50 That's correct. There's 2 qualifying courses that must be shot prior to turning in the score cards by 3pm on Saturday.

On Sunday morning pickup the score card at 8am and all shooters start shooting at 8:30am.

From: tradlongbow
Date: 30-Jan-17

@BIG DOG, Last year the winner on the Team Event was a husband and wife team. The husband built his own bows.

For the Broadhead World Championship, the broadheads must be fixed. No expandable broadheads.

Finally ordered another set of limbs, so I now have a dedicated 3D bow and hunting bow. No more swapping the limbs in the fall and back in the spring. Put my camo dipped Winex limbs on my right handed 19 Titan for hunting. Nancy's birthday present to me was to let me order new limbs, so I ordered a set of S.F. Elites from Lancaster Thursday. They will go on my left handed 21 inch Dalaa for 3Ds. Will get them sometime next week, and will see how they work out. Looking forward to using them at the shoot!

What kind of distances is normal to see in an event like this?

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 06-Mar-17

Wow sure seems like there are a lot of shoots out there where the winner is the world champion.

From: tradlongbow
Date: 06-Mar-17

Hi Dan, The distances are based on the size of the animal. The smaller animals are usually shot at closer distances than larger animals.

From: tradlongbow
Date: 06-Mar-17

Hi Jack, I agree with you, they have several different world championships. Which makes each event unique and different is how their courses are setup, classes, and rules. The T.A.S. Traditional Bowhunter World Championship courses are setup in a natural setting with a shot for both left handed and right handed shooters, the kill zones are visible, scoring is 10, 8, 5, 0, and the 3-D targets are set at distances based on the size of the animal, not the bowhunters equipment. There’s 5 classes for men and women, and 2 classes for Youth, and cubs. The classes are Hill Longbow, Longbow, Recurve, Selfbow, and Open Class. Our goal is preserve and promote traditional archery and bowhunting for future generations.

Going to check out the weather forecast before I leave. Since Nancy's not going, I was thinking I might use my tent instead of hauling the trailer. After a couple weeks of nice weather here, it snowed a tad overnight.

From: Clydebow
Date: 12-Mar-17

Yeah, It's a little different staying in a tent when you are 69, as say compared to when you used to be 29!

Camped in a tent for a week by myself many years ago at the Big Piney River at Fort Leonard Wood Mo. while bowhuntng deer. Average temp every morning was 15 degrees. One morning I came back and all my food was frozen in my cooler. Went to the Fort Wood Family Diner for breakfast and found out it had been 3 degrees that morning. Killed an 8ptr Friday at 11:20 A.M ten minutes before I was going to get down and pack it up. That was the day before the Mo. firearm season.

From: tradlongbow

Wes Wallace longbows have D/R limbs. They will be in the Longbow class.

From: Cjohnsjf

Longbow class reads bows can't be cut past center shot. Will that be checked? Can you please explain how the stump shoot works. Thanks for the feedback.

From: tradlongbow
Date: 14-Mar-17

Hi Cjohnsjf, The rule on longbow will be checked if someone brings it up and makes a complaint.

For the Stump-Shoot, it's 1.00 an arrow to qualify for the shoot-off. If you hit the target on the stump with the first arrow, it only cost you a dollar to get in the shoot-off.

Good Shooting, Darren

From: Bowcrazy

Steve, I didn't know you were quikfire. You'll have to tell me how you got that name.

Just got off the phone with Jim Belcher, he will be bringing some American Longbow blanks for the DIY bow builder. Blanks sell for 279.00

Going grocery shopping tomorrow with Nancy. Gotta load up with the food I need before she leaves on her trip. Also need to check air pressure in the tires on the camper, and buy one tank of gas. Better pack my fishing gear now while I'm thinking about it. Looks like I'll be on my way Wednesday morning.

Guess I'd better get on the stick and shoot a couple broadheads too.

From: tradlongbow

Clyde, I should be there at noon on Thursday. We'll get together and walk the range.

Steve told me he's setting up an additional fun range to shoot. Maybe we can get together on that range and loose a few arrows.

Congrats Ray Root!

The 2017 Arrowsmith World Champion

Ray Root Champion J.R. Joseph Belk 2nd Place Donald J. Swihart 3rd Place

Congrats to all the participants! This is the second year doing this event and there were 16 arrows entered in the event.

Many people had a difficult time choosing just one arrow. They all were spectacular. Each individual arrow was given to a winner from each class starting with the cubs and youth. Those kids will cherish these arrows and inspire the next generation of arrowsmiths.

Thanks to everyone that made it out to the shoot and SORRY about all the mud but somethings I just can't control. There were some great shooters that showed up and some who were better with their scoring pencils than their bows, its sad that people have to be like that to win. Other than that and the mud I think it was a great time with some great people, can't wait for next years shoot.
