I have been practicing at 60 yds for the American Round.

From: r.grider
Date: 20-Jan-17

John, if that's a 10'x10' bullseye target, that group is not that great, but I have a feeling, it is not ! Maybe 10"x10". John was last years winner of our American Round, and is going to be a contender for sure. Several voiced their intent to compete in this next year. I will be making at least two more target butts just in case we do get a crowd there, they wont be so crowded. Cant wait !

From: Clydebow
Date: 20-Jan-17

Should be there!

From: Sipsey River
Date: 21-Jan-17

Ha Ha Randy! The target above is a 40 cm face, about 15.5" diameter. But to be honest, I can't hit this tight every time. I took a picture of my best group. But, I am still practicing. I love shooting these long range shots.

LOL, Clyde, good call ! tradarchery champ, google maps "250 Whites Ln, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. Its is half way between Harrodsburg, and Perryville along US# 68. Big 4x8 sign that says "Mercer County Fish and Game Farm". We will also have a banner up. Turn on Whites Ln, its first gravel road on right, drive back lane and you will see campers along the lane and in the field.

Will there be any practice 3d targets up for shooting Thursday afternoon April 6, 2017?

From: Brother Dan
Date: 24-Mar-17

Was there for the first one, just couldn't get back down since, gonna tey and make it this year. my son wanted to know is there room off the road for a 37ft 5th wheel camper. Thanks BDan

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 24-Mar-17

Brother Dan, there is all sorts of room for whatever you bring. Space is not an issue...and free fire wood to boot! :o)

From: BJN
Date: 24-Mar-17

No practice 3d targets I'm aware of. We have bales for practice/warmup at the clubhouse I'm pretty sure will be out Thursday.

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 24-Mar-17

That would be great to be able to shoot even if just the warm-up butts. Can hardly wait--cabin fever setting in bad. :o)

From: r.grider

Just the target butts up by the clubhouse. Ranges open on friday morning.

From: Sipsey River

Is it going to rain this year? Are you going to have to tow out my van again?

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 25-Mar-17

John, no negative vibes, man. :o)

From: Sipsey River
Date: 25-Mar-17

Just a little humor. I'll be there rain or shine, love this event. My van gets stick even after a sprinkle, almost no traction!

From: r.grider
Date: 26-Mar-17

we have a tractor on site, and anybody stuck will get towed, for free, you know that John. :)

From: r.grider
Date: 26-Mar-17

The firewood is cut and split, good seasoned wood, better than before. This year firewood will be in central locations, on pickup bed trailers, so campers will have access. This makes it easier on us, as when the event is over it is ready to be hauled away.

From: Sipsey River
Date: 26-Mar-17

Yes, I know from experience. My van can get stuck if someone spits on the grass. If anyone who has never been to this event is considering attending this year, go............you won't find a more fun event. The ground is relatively flat and an easy walk. Good targets and good distances. Now with the American round added and also the smoker round, it is a blast. Good people and good event!

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

From: BJN

From: r.grider
Date: 28-Mar-17

Saturday at the big tent, 4-6 pm. If rain threatens we can do it under the clubhouse porch, but usually outside between tent and clubhouse. Not sure we could get enough folks to justify it two days.

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 28-Mar-17

Thanks, Randy, I can't stay that late on Saturday so just wanted to know whether to bring the goodies I have set aside for it. Decided to move some things that haven't been earning their keep here. :o)

From: BJN
Date: 29-Mar-17

Current forecast stands at 20% chance of rain and 100% chance to have fun for all three days.

Cost of shooting & primitive camping fees Thursday night to Sunday Noon?

From: Carpdaddy
Date: 03-Apr-17

I'm not a part of the KTBA so don't bank on this. Don't think there is a charge for primative camping and one cost of $25 (I think) for entire weekend. Can't find a better deal!

From: Carpdaddy
Date: 03-Apr-17

Opps on spelling in last post but I still don't think there is a charge for "primitive" camping or firewood. And if the same it is $5 more to compete, must score first round. Hopefully someone will chime in and say for sure. Hope to see ya there.

From: Clydebow
Date: 03-Apr-17

The camping answer is in the O.P.

From: r.grider

Camping and firewood is free. 40 target 3-d course is Competition $30 (trophy plaque prizes) adult, kids Im thinking under $10 (Trophy plaque prizes). Adults shoot for fun $25. American round is $10 (Trophy plaque), Best I recall the ten target smoker round was $5Winner gets 40% of pot. Long shot is a nominal fee, and the winners (2) get to take a new rhinehart target home. Aireals were something like $1 for three shots. Running boar is free. 40 target course shoot fee gets you unlimited rounds all weekend, comp must score first round. You can shoot smoker round as much as you want to improve your score, but pay each round. No vendor setup fees, but raffle item donations appreciated. Saturday night guest speaker Charlie Lamb (Free) , Bluegrass music (free) , and potluck meal (donate food or cash) I just dont think you will find a cheaper shoot anywhere.

From: r.grider
Date: 03-Apr-17

If I am wrong on any of these shoot fees, someone please correct me.

Forecast calling for partly cloudy Friday and Saturday. Mostly Sunny Sunday. Friday 54/33, Saturday 63/44 and 75 Sunday.

Ranges are awaiting shooters, food vendor rolled in today and will be ready and the smoker round is waiting for Sipsey River.

after looking all over, found my shooting form behind the sofa, so looking toward a better showing than what i put together this past weekend. see you guys tomorrow to help with any work that remains. made some venison chili for lunch. think the weekend's going to be great.

From: r.grider
Date: 05-Apr-17

64# of venison for burger soaking now, will ad another 10# or so of pork, and grind on Friday night, for burgers on the Saturday night potluck feast. Fresh ground 1/4# venison/pork burgers are to die for ! This will be a lot of burger, so I may pattie and freeze some just in case we all fill up. This stuff is too good to waste, so even frozen, it can be tossed on the grill if needed. Will also be cooking 10# of soup beans on the big kettle over the fire, like we did a couple years ago. Need a volunteer on Saturday afternoon to stir them on occaision while I shoot/run the American Round. The benefits of this job are, sitting in front of a fire, amongst the finest crowd of people on earth, while you occaisionally ad firewood ,stir, and um, sample the product. The added bonus is a natural heating feature for your tent that night. I hear rumors of cornbread, potatoe soup, beef burgers, hot dogs, drink mixes, and many other surprise dishes. Bob Enlow assures me he will again win the campfire cookoff and the $100 cash prize and plaque, donated by Herway Bows, with some type of surprise dish. I think he has lost his mind, as the venison burgers cannot be beat. We will see. These must be your own dish to enter, no fair hitting the Kroger deli ! Special salads, home cooked vegetables or desert dishes all count. Anyone interested may chime in on what they intend to bring, just so we don't have too much of anyone certain thing. Had some threatening weather tonight, and some rain tomorrow, but then it should be clear sailing starting Friday, but a tad cool, and warming through the weekend. Its gonna be fun !
