Got hooked on trad bows and finally found this forum and the classifieds after scouring Ebay. I was about to order a new bow when I found this forum. Three really nice bows came up over the past 2 days. I always wait a few hours to contemplate my purchase and lost all three to other buyers. never knew this place was as busy as walmart! Had to order from an established dealer. Not a nice welcome! LOL.

Hang in there; your luck will change. Also, don't be shy about posting your wish list...and get in touch with Lonnie (Recycled Recurves) on this site; he might have exactly what you're looking for.

LOTS of bows are bought, sold, and traded here. It's part of the fun!! Welcome to the team by the way.

From: Straitera

Plenty here post "wanted" ads. Good idea if you know what you want.

From: stickbow21

Get involved and establish a history here. Otherwise members may be a little stand offish when buying, selling, and trading.

Just don't post pictures of compounds, and dead snakes.

There is a Beautiful 'Black Creek Banshee' recurve for sale in the classifieds with your name written all over it.

Welcome ! Alot of good people here and can learn alot from them. Be sure to post some to build yourself a history. When you contact people about buying a bow from them if they don't recognize your name they will try and look you up. If nothing comes up people will be a little uneasy dealing with you . A good phone call can help take care of that . Welcome again !

I have done 4 deals in the last month 3 here. It will click at some point.

I think a lot of guys here know what they're looking for, and those bows don't last long! Good luck to you!

From: RymanCat

Snooze you loose. You see it then step up then and there but don't cry that you delayed.

If you know the guys that sell great bows that are desired they don't last long if they are priced right that's the first you need to be aware of to be able to get one. Then when I don't get one I figure it wasn't meant to be someone elses turn.

The other thing is to live on here and see when things come up as well and then be right on it gives a better chance also.

I was told I was a bow hog from a pm once just because the other guy wanted the bow. He had an equal chance. Besides I listed it again and he missed it again and whined too why didn't you tell me.

Sometimes depending on who you are guys will also hold bows for you if you commit. All a guy wants to do is sell a bow not listen to boo!

Walmart is a lot better place. Especially for a newbie. Stick with eBay.

Buying and selling bows is like buying and selling anything, there is a learning curve involved... explore all the tools at your disposal...many of my best bows were never advertised anywhere

I still have about ten bows that I need to move out of my collection. Between here, Ebay, and Texas Bowhunters, I have sold eleven and bought four in the past month. I have two deals working at the moment and just agreed to sell one bow that I just bought yesterday and won't have for about a week. If I put an ad up and only have one or two responses in a couple of days, I delete the ad. There will be a better time to sell the bow, hopefully. I listed a Rocky Mountain Recurve and the first response was via telephone a couple of hours after I posted the ad and even though I did not put a phone number in the listing. That is how competitive things can get on here...

Before long you will be wanting to know how to post pics of all the bows you want to sell. It's a slippery slope.

I'm sorry surfer, I had 4 others inquiring here on this board and three others on three other forums.

You'll like that slick stick and Kustom King is a good outfit to deal with.

Count your blessings this happened because if you're as "hooked" as you say one of the best things that could happen to you is developing a relationship with an established dealer. I'll let you in on a dirty little secret...this won't be your last bow...that dealer is gonna come in handy some day!

From: oletrapper
Date: 06-Dec-16

Haha, ya that's definitely not our fault lol. You gotta work quick on here. Other guys are just as hungry for a great deal as you are. And whining about it on your first day?-bad choice.

Don't be hard on him fellas, he is a newbie, don't run him off on his first post. I didn't see where he was boohooing anything, I admit the last statement was not called for. He just stated that he didn't know that this site was so active.

Like everyone stated, he will learn.....everyone has been there.

Thanks Folks......Ron

Here is a question for all of us...if we had it to do over would we do anything differently...I have connected with some amazing people buying and selling and even gifting and being gifted bows

I guess I read surfers post a little different than some. To me it was written with a good bit of humor and not a little sarcasm. Made me chuckle. LOL does still mean "laughing out loud" right?

"The written word can be read to mean many different things."

If surfer is as addicted to trad as the rest of us, he'll be hawking the classifieds all the time looking for that next bow.

From: Yewbender

Surfer, welcome to LW and to a great addiciton of buying bows lol!!! Just so you know...after the first one their are many more to come! Anyway you are going to love traditional archery. I got hooked in 2013 and wish i had done it sooner. Lots of good folks in this sport and lots are willing to lend a helping hand.

If you got ????'s the folks on this site are hear to help. Also you might receive a lil ball busting but it's in all good fun. Enjoy your new journey in traditional archery!

From: RymanCat

Yeah I would do everything differently curb my addictions on these bows.

Sounds like he could have the wrong foot forward and needs to back up if he thinks it could go addition worry about sold bows now hear this. You get it.LOL

I was a lot like you when I first got started in that I would find one I was interested in, but would think about it for too long only to find it gone when I checked back on it.

Like others have said, join in on some of the conversations, and let folks know what you're looking for. Over time, you'll get a feel for what the going market is for certain bows and when you see one you like, act quickly. If you buy one and decide you don't like it, you can always sell it, probably to someone who was too slow on the draw the first time around. :-)

From: surfer44usa

The addictions never stop. I've collected vintage guitars for over 40 years. Finally finished my 12 step program and stopped (for now) hope this doesn't lead me down the same path? And as Jeepdog said my post was written with humor and sarcasm, no ill wind at all. let's get it on!

"Not a nice welcome" you stated, nobody is entitled to winning just because they are a new member or old member.

This is a great site with very helpful and and knowledgeable members who are willing to share their experiences and impart such free of charge with pleasure.

Hang in there and don't sweat the small stuff as losing bids. No trophies to losers here, lol.

From: Fisher Cat
Date: 06-Dec-16

You can't lose what you never had. There are still plenty of nice bows out there. To me, half the fun is in looking and learning. After a while, you will know what you want and won't hesitate when everything is right. - John

Welcome surfer, just wanted to post here and let you know that the tone of smiling, shoulder-shrug, joke-exasperation in your post was not lost on everyone- just those grumps that got out of the wrong side of bed, and/or didn't read your email carefully enough, and/or don't know what LOL is! LOL Darren

Welcome Surfer44usa, you will get used to the poking on here. Ha!Ha!

From: Bowlim

It's a fact that for some people an activity really isn't the activity, it is another excuse to buy and sell stuff. You will see these guys take up something like Ultralight camping just so they can add a whole other line of camping gear to the basement. Or join minimalist cave dwellers so that they can trave cave wall paintings. If surfer just completed a 12 step program to stop trading guitars, I think an interest in traditional archery is what is known as a relapse.

Hang in there many good deals. Used is the way to go prices have taken a real hit

Much better to go used then decide on Your favorite and then maybe order a new one.

From: Monte

It is a great service with a lot of really knowledgeable folks selling and buying. And a lot of very honest folks with some great bows to sell.

From: Flinger1

Not sure what your looking for surfer, but there is a Bear Montana in the classifieds that's a really good deal ($225).

Check a lot of places, not just here. Big Jim has a bunch....a big bunch of used bows, and his prices are generally a lot better than most classifieds. Ebay is good and I buy most of mine there, at least what I'm not trading for. I did sell one here two weeks ago and that went very well. I sent the bow before I got the money on that one because I did my research and the buyer was a person of his word. All good. I don't buy a lot here since the prices generally reflect newer bows and I'm a vintage guy...both in my likes and my age. 8^). Enjoy. It's a good place to hang out.

I agree with jeepdog. I found some great bows on here in the wanted add format. That way it seems like you are the only one who knows that bow is for sale haha. I am still kind of new to this site, and some will bust your balls for no reason, but that is life.(turn the other cheek, or ball) I bought 5 bows on here so far. All the deals went smooth as butter.
