This story starts about 6 years ago when he started shooting his dads old right hand bear cub. Within a few months discovered he is left eye dominate. Decided to switch him to lefty so bought him a Mathews Genesis and he made the switch. Within 6 months he advised me he wanted to shoot a recurve or longbow like my friends and I. Got him a Matrix and he went through a light set of limbs and then a heavier set. About a year ago bought a Trad Tech Black Onyx ILF from a fellow waller and our friend Kasper Bertch gave him a set of Trad Tech 40lb limbs making a 58" bow. We started out light and by summers end we had the limbs maxed out. He only draws about 24" so maybe 30#. He was shooting very well by the end of the summer and beating a lot of the adults at 3d tournaments. So now he just turned 10 and wants to hunt. I advised not until we get some snow as I wanted the tracking to be easy. Well we got 18" the last 3 days of Nov so time to hunt. I have a ground blind set up on my property made out of sand bags and he practiced out of it late summer. We set up and saw nothing the first evening. The 2nd night things went better and just before sundown a button buck came in. Aidan's breathing went through the roof but somehow after several moments he got things under control. The deer turned broadside at about 7 yards and I gave him the ok. The hit was a little far back but perfect up and down. Not bad for the first shot ever taken on a game animal. We decided to wait until morning to track as we were able to watch the deer for about 15 minutes till it was out of sight. At first light I carried the sled and Aidan tracked. The deer was only 100 from the blind. The meat was cool so probably could have followed up that night. Better safe than sorry. This was one of the best hunting experiences of my life to share this with this special little boy. I'll never forget the excitement in his voice and eye's

You are so right Doug. I have only granddaughters, (five to be exact) but the oldest says she wants to hunt. She turns 7 this month so we shall see how it goes. Loves to shoot her bow with her dad when he practices. Just hope I have enough time to experience what you have Bode.

Congratulations to you and your grandson---this will always be special for him. I also spent lots of time with my grandson from the time he was 5 y.o. He is now 20 and he shot a nice 8 pointer this year with a Hoyt Buffalo bow, which i proudly gave him. These experiences are never forgotten. Joel

Thanks y'all. I really appreciate the support. It was cool beyond cool. The arrow is another story. I shot a turkey with it and then a pig in Texas. The pig broke it off. I cut his arrow @ 26. I put a 100 gr brass insert in a 500 spine arrow with a 150 grain wensal woodsman elite. We have had lots of threads about how many pounds is enough. I think this pretty much sums it up!!!
