Ever notice how new to you bows seem to shoot better than your usual bow right out of the box? I just got a used Jeffery's Royal Hunter TD yesterday. I strung it up and shot it this morning for the first time here at the office. With a variety of arrows and point weights, off the shelf (usually shoot an elevated rest), and even longer distances than I am able to shoot at home, I pretty much was dead on every shot. It seems like every time I shoot a new bow, the first shot is perfect. Maybe I'll never miss again with this bow. LOL

That's why it's important to keep buying bows!

There like guns and knives, man can't have too many.

I agree completely, how ever if that was the case by the 9th or 10th bow we should be able to shoot fleas off of squirrels at 20 yds. I believe the search for the "perfect" bow is what drives us. Good luck

That is the reason a lot of new bows are sold.

I received my new Bushman American Native longbow and at 15 yards shot my first arrow in the bulls eye then shot my second arrow into the first for a robin hood, haven't shot one since....Ha!Ha!

someone said " if the mind wonders so will the arrow" shooting a new bow is like shooting with your opposite hand, causes you to focus on the basics....ron

New bows normally shoot better for the first two weeks.

I have several perfect bows, I have always been in search of the perfect arrow.

Send that bow to me before you lose that "beginners luck". LOL

new bows are like new girlfriends very exiting and you like them better than the last, after a year or two well your back to shopping around again.

Each bow at the completion of construction has only a limited number of good shots. First will be the best and then the quality of good shots gradually declines until the good shots a used up. I've never had or shot a bow that the good shots wasn't used up.

My half dozen-plus bows all shoot better than each other, and I've had them all for around 15 years.

I need to put this thread and crookedstix and Lost arrow's replies away for future reference. Might come in handy sometime. ;~)

when you shoot as poorly as I do, new bows don't make much of a difference...

I read a book on championship target archery one time, and that guy's theory on new stuff was that "Everything works. For about 3 weeks."

First time I shot my Bighorn, I had my carbons and 2-3 sizes of aluminum; @ 20 yards, the old Howatt was grouping 8"-10" all around the target, and the Bighorn sorted the carbons into a 3" group on the bull and the Alumalogs into a 4" group at 8:00... Probably why test-drive programs are such an effective marketing tactics for bowyers!

Of course they shoot better, until it's old. Then sold to the next guy and shoots great for them. Repeat until well used. Then it's antique that shoots Great. JF

It wont help me new or not , Just not get shot ops , but yes a new one seems to fix any problems your having with one shot

My experience has been exactly the opposite. Have fun with your new bow!

Also, every new bow is much faster than the prior bow :)

Don't you think its just a mind set on this. BTW it might very well be a wives Tail. But for those who never had wives then we might have to excuse a lot.LOL

Heck no its no tale! That's why some of us switch bows every 6 months. After about 20 bows your up well over 500 FPS.

Went back out at lunch and shot some more. At 25 yards I was pounding the bullseye. On the last arrow, the string broke! First time I've ever had that happen. Scared the hell out of me. It broke during the shot, and the arrow made it to the target so I think everything is ok. I put the other string that came with the bow on it and pulled it back once, and everything seemed fine. This string looks worse than the one that broke though, so no more shooting my "new" bow until I get a new string.

might want to chek string groovs for rough edges.....ron

We have it pretty good as far as bow choice goes.I myself prefere older pre loved bows. There are some new bows on the market that do leave a bit to be desired at times. On the other hand some new bows are exceptional too.I came to a conclusion a while ago that in many different era 's there were exceptional bows and some real bad ones too.Nothing has really changed in that regard. The world moves a lot faster these days and what I do see is the better quality older bows were hand finished to a better standard than some of the newer bows on the market now.It doesn't mean a newer now won't perform but they just don't look as good.Thats OK as the custom bowyers can give a beautifully finished bow.Time now days is money so to keep prices competitive attention to detail is sacrificed a bit.Either way shoot what you want.
