I have been looking at short hybrids in the 58" range, particularly the Dwyer Endeavor and the Toelke Pika. Both of these bows and Bowyers get high praises from what I've read, but what else is out there that compares to these two? I would like to hear your experiences with a one piece hybrid like the Endeavor or Pika.

I will hopefully get to get on the waiting list for a new bow soon and this will prob be my only opportunity to have a custom built, any recommendations/experiences would be appreciated.

Treadway Black Swamp, Java man Elkheart, Big Jim Thunderchild, plus those you've mentioned. If one of those doesn't work for you, you're out of luck because they are all outstanding.

You can find some other Hybrids at lower prices without loss in performance in my opinion.

The Pika is a great shooting bow. Plus you will have it in about 30 days. Dan is great to deal with and he has some beautiful woods to choose from. His workmanship is second to none.

A&H Archery has a takedown longbow with ACS limbs in 56" and 58", depending upon your drawlength. I have the 60" takedown and it is very smooth and very fast. Centaur offers bows 58" and shorter in one piece and takedown versions. Their bows are very fast and very highly regarded. I have not shot one however. Both options that I mentioned are pretty pricey.

Omega longbows will performe as good as any. May not be as flashy as some. Omega 58 inch starting price is $385. Last one I had built I had it on my door step in 3 weeks. Also comes with a lifetime Warrenty .

I've heard nothing but good things about the Maddog Prairie Predator and Emery Stykbows. Might look at those.

Oh, and Toelke has a great rep - don't know if he makes one that short

X2 Biathlonman's input. He knows those bows.I haven't shot the models mentioned, but I've bought bows from both Javaman - Falcon model, 58", and Dan Toelke - a longer whip, and I can vouch for the quality of their bows and their service. The Endeavor and the Thunderchild are both at the top of my list for a next bow to try.

What's your draw length? Some of those bows, you might even go 56". I'm currently shooting a 58" Thunderstick Mag, and it's a super sweet bow - but Jim Reynolds isn't building bows anymore. Also, don't rule out asking whatever bowyer you choose what they might have in stock; they often have something, but don't list it. I've gotten two fine bows that way with no wait.

Forgot to add Maddog, Mike is an excellent bowyer as well, super guy. He has one cooking for me!

I have a relatively short draw 26.5"-27 or so

From: firekeeper
Date: 30-Nov-16

Matt, depends on which bow you pick, but you could easily go 56" on some of these. In fact, 54" on a couple, if you want really short.

I came across a Dale Arner bow. I believe he's from Allentown PA area. Don't know if he is still making them but if you run across one I highly recommend taking a close look. Mine is 51# @ 27" smooth as silk and quick. Totally changed my adversion to long bows. Good luck

Another vote for the Pika, I was so impressed after the first three shots of my 56"er, I went in the house and called Dan immediately!

Check out Chuck Deshler's hybrid called the Ogemaw. It isn't on his website but you could facebook or call him.

Kustom King Archery has the Bodnik Slick Stick for a very reasonable price. It's a very good performer with a 30 year warranty. Bodnik also makes the Quick Stick (available at Lancaster archery)which is similar but a little fancier.

I would also put Kanati on that list. He makes a 56", 58", and 60" bow. I have a 58" and 60" and really like them. I have others, but these two are consistently my go to bows. JMO

Javaman and kanati. I have a 27" draw and love my 54" javaman elkheart.

Thanks for the input folks....

I see several nods for the Pika...Anyone have any shooting experience with the Endeavor?

Thunderchild.

Worth the wait!

I can vouch for Kanati.

A question to the guys with longer 29"+ DL's shooting these short bows; Do any of you shoot 3 under? Do any shoot a fixed crawl or SW with them?

I'm curious to how those short bows tune and shoot like that... it seems to me they would be more critical...maybe not.

From: sheepdogreno

Like mentioned before take the time to look at a rich emery Stik...his fb page is Stikbows he can build you a custom for half the price of the other mentioned that will perform just as good and look amazing...I've got order in for my second custom

I've read reviews about the Pika and pretty much know what to expect. But seeing the nods for the Kanati has me wondering what is so special about it? Can anyone give a quick review of the experience with them?

From: mahantango
Date: 04-Dec-16

Very, very impressed with my Kanati. 56", bamboo limbs with CoreTuff and black glass. As stable and smooth as a much longer bow, excellent performance. Comfortable grip, quiet, a joy to carry in the woods. What's not to like? I got mine used in a trade and Jason promptly and graciously answered my E mails about the bow.

From: fdp

Understand.....this all subjective.

There isn't 5cents worth of difference in material performance, or durability in any of the top name bows of ant design.

Price has very little to do with performance. Everybody esentially buys the same material, from the same places, and all the shapes are prety well duplicates of each other.

After tha, it is ALL about the dude pulling the string, and the arrows the bow is shooting.

My suggestion, don't buy any of them until you can shoot them. You may even find that NONE of the bows anybody else raves about, does anythng at all for you.

Great Northern Lil Creep. 58" I don't have one, but have been looking at Great Northern for a long time. I have heard so many good things about them.

From: EricPootatuckArchers

That Kanati looks nice after checking their website, nice wood options and price will not hurt too much

try a 56 or 58in kanati they are great bows you will love how they shoot

From: Matt M

Well after my original post, my first two options might have changed...I will def check out the kanati first

I was not at all impressed with the Kanati, go with your first instinct.
