Just received a bow with quite a pedigree; this one involves two famous bowyers. Anyone recognize it and know the story behind it?

Here's the whole bow. That profile should ring a bell for a lot of people, but the woodwork may seem odd...and if you have Dan Bertalan's book, you'll probably be able to guess the two bowyers.

A lot of you are seeing the Bob Lee Thunderbird in this bow, because it's an exact knock-off of it. It was made by a guy who really admired the T-Bird-- he is better known for making yew longbows than recurves, if that's any help. But it's not Fred Anderson...he'd probably think this one has way too much wood in the riser!

Bob Lee and Don Adams.
Adams said the T-bird without question was the best recurve of the era. And he outshot a compound for distance with one.

Bernie and Backcountry nailed it; Don Adams was the builder. I don't know how many of these he made, but it's basically a Thunderbird made with bubinga and something darker...rosewood, pau ferro, I don't know...but anyway it's a sweet-looking and shooting bow. This one is 55# draw, and the grip feels just right to me-- a wee bit thinner, and lower-wristed, than the original T-Bird.

Beautiful bow. Probably served as the inspiration for Frisky's vaunted and over- hyped Deathmaster.

I should add that I bought it from Ted Fry at Raptor Archery, who knew the whole story behind it and a lot more. In addition to selling it at a great price IMO, Ted was kind enough to hold it for me right from the minute I told him I wanted it. He took it off the website and put it out back so it wouldn't get sold...and then come payday five days later, it was mine. He's a great guy to deal with, for sure.

I'd second the kudos for Ted and Jesse at Raptor -great selection and great prices! Just bought a Fasco with big funky rosewood horned riser from them this week.
I was guessing Bob Lee And Ben Pearson -1/2 right anyway. :-)

Hi,
So you bought the Fasco. I was looking at that bow myself - actually they had 2 of them about a little over a month ago.
But shipping cost to Europe is around $ US 60 which on top of the purchase price busts my import duty-free wall of 150€.
That bow would have cost me way over 250€ to my door - which is why I sort of procrastinated in buying it on the spot.
Have fun with it.
