Just purchased a Colt Plainsman 6O inch @ 45 pounds Purdy nice bow, Looks so much like a Ben Pearson couldn't believe it, Any value in this Bow? Loose value if I redo it??

The value is whatever you can get out of it. it's not a collector so refinishing won't hurt it at all. Could be made by Gordon, or Browning.

Unless I am mistaken, if it says "Hartford, Connecticut" on the lower limb, it was made by Wing Archery

I've had a bunch of Colts that appear to be made by different manufacturers and most have that same logo including the Hartford, CT (even ones that look like they are Pearson built.)

The ones I have LOOK like other bows I have seen from Browning, Wing, and Pearson from the same era (and I understand that Colt never made them but commissioned them from other companies) but I have also read that many bowyers "borrowed" design elements from each other regularly also. So without a definitive answer from someone who worked for either Colt or the companies making their bows at that time who can tell.

I really like the Colts I have and looked for answers and never seen any that really seemed definitive on the subject.

Thanks Guys. Maybe one day when is possible to put up pictures, I'll do that

Ernie Root made bows for them, as did Bob Lee, Ben Pearson, and maybe a few others. I've seen the Lee, Root and Ben Pearson models.

Here's a Colt's Hunt Master that is made by Wing. It's 52".

The limb profile is identical to the 52" Red Wing Hunter and the 52" Thunderbird.

As you look at the pictures there is no doubt it is a Wing. The printing is even the same as you will see on the Wing bows of the same era.

The overlays on the face are identical to the Chaparral.

The tips are pretty much a dead giveaway...

Here's the whole bow...it has the Hartford Connecticut decal that Kent Alan mentioned.

As for the Plainsman I have seen them and would agree with you that it is Pearson built.

I have 2 of them that are like new. They shoot well

That Huntmaster certainly looks like a Lee bow. I have a Grand National and Trophy Mark I that look like twins to a few Browning target bows I've seen. Also have an Arrowmaster and Fieldmaster that I would guess were Pearson made.

I'll have to dig up some pics. They are nice looking (doing better than me anyway- and I think I'm younger!) and shoot really well without having put a ton of tuning effort into them.
