I have one of Steve's longbows. 64" inch 45lbs @ 28 inches all Osage. Beautiful bow. Steve was a great bowyer and person - we miss him.
I can't recall his recommended longbow brace height - any suggestions? I recall that it may have been fairly low, around 6 1/8 - 6 1/2 inches.
Appreciate your suggestions and recommendations
Thank you

It's where you want it. I had one of his bows...maybe two, hell I can't remember. With any mild deflex/reflex longbow I start with a fistmele and tune from there.

I would imagine you could go out to at least 7" or a little more.

I'm on my fourth Abbott now. Every one was 7-1/2" brace height.
Wonderful bows from a really nice and talented guy.

when I get a longbow, I start at 7" and adjust accordingly during the tuning process. when I get a recurve, I start at 7 1/2" and do the same.
I purchased a used longbow a number of years ago. the seller had the brace at 6 1/2", tuned to a certain arrow set-up, and was adamant this is where I needed to leave it in order for the bow to shoot the best.
even though our draw lengths were the same, I wound up with a 7 3/8" brace height and a stiffer spine arrow. my final point weight was lighter than what he (seller) used.
as posted above, "It's where you want it."

I bought a Abbott longbow from Steve at Denton Hill the year he passed. He said the brace height should be 6 3/4.

I hunted with Steve for 20 years and still own a "bunch" of his bows. Start at 6 1/4. Most of mine are between that and 6 3/4. Steve prefered 6 1/4 .
