Just cut some more recycled Douglas fir Really nice old growth well seasoned wood.I up ended my 7 1/4" skill saw and ripped up my wood on an improvised table saw.Used my metal detector on the wood this time and had a good run(no nails)It really is the easiest way of getting nice wood for me.I now have about 500 odd fir and another 500 odd Baltic pine.I just got to get to work and foot them and make some shafts.I am Making shafts to assemble arrows. Osr:

I'm sure that works for you, however it looks like an accident looking for a place to happen!!! Sorry.

Agree! Waetch Craigslist for a good OLD cast iron American-mad table saw. Might need bearings, but they are available and you'll have a really good machine.

This on is from the 1940s and will still be going until the grid collapses.

BTW, I do have the fence for the above, and usually am more careful with my typing. 8(

I do have a good table saw but no where to set it up.It also has a jointer and mortise attachment.Bob no need to be sorry I don't have a workshop but That never stopped me.And whilst that may look like a desaster and dangerous it isn't.I have confidence in the man who taught me about woodworking machines.I grew up with a workshop and my father taught me to use and set up all the machinery in his workshop By the time I was 11 I could use all dads machinery .Dad taught me and my brothers and he never had any accidents and neither my brothers or me have been hurt.I have how ever seen others loose fingers and hands. Yeah, bobs right.

I still remember a story my grandfather told me as a kid back in about 1965. He was a woodshop teacher in the Oakland,Ca school district and one day he came in and found someone had broke into the shop.....and left the piece of lumber they were cutting along with a bloody finger on the tablesaw.

I had one rule for my kids: If you put any part of your body where a machine can get it, it WILL.

As long as you keep that in mind, all will be well.

I spun out 30 spruce shafts yesterday. I'm getting so lazy. Now I want a machine that seals, crests and fletches them while I'm out shooting.

Jim, Are you asharrow on OWWM? I recognize that machine. At least that base. mp

Yep. That's me. I picked that handle for this site way back in the late '90s when I thought ash was the only arrow wood that grew near me. I can't change my handle on that site, so there it is. What's your's on OWWM?

My grand sonsnow planes their own shafts. He is a little slow but Logan is determined and is doing it.The problem of kids breaking or losing arrows greatly diminished when their mean nasty grandpa makes them make their own arrows. No Logan and Tylor love it .They want to foot some but not quite yet.Yeah I suppose that is an accident waiting to happen too. They can knapp a bit too having mastered pressure flaking.

The grand kids are good they only planed about 5 shafts each.they then took it apon them selves to get into some of my planed shafts and claim them for them selves. We spin sanded a few but Logan and Tylor only did 2 1/2 between them.I did the rest. They got 3 of my footed ones and 1 Baltic pine shaft .I should have 25 or 30 done today I between footing shafts.I am hoping to foot about 20 odd shafts today at least .I am fitting 5 at a time.here is the first 5 OSR

Red cat decided to get in on it too.Its not as bad as the dog though he is fond of chewing arrows / surfboards, fishing rods you name it.the dog is well fed too.Now I know why she is a bitch.Haven't had any bows chewed yet.Back to footing now. OSR
