Anyone practice aerial or moving targets shooting 3 under? Ever have problems with arrow coming off the rest or the string?

With proper nock fit and your hook set as it should be,,,you should never have a problem with either of the above mentioned.

Have shot a lot of ariels over the years. Never had any issues. sounds like maybe it could possibly be a finger pinch problem as well.

I have a tendancy to relax my finger pressure on the string just before I hit anchor and then as I make face contact I tense my grip again. This always moves my arrow off the rest. So, I must always be mindful to keep steady finger pressure on the string.

Try re-serving the string with larger diameter serving thread. They come in sizes from around .018" to .030". Just to isolate the problem, wrap some unwaxed dental floss for about 1/4" on the area below your string nock and see if it solves the problem.

Well, It is obvious that the guys that shoot aerials and moving targets with a three under string hold, without having problems with their arrow coming off the shelf, have bought and, are wearing their pinks panties.
All 3 under shooters must abide by the WRITTEN rule in the archery Bible that states 3 under shooting girly men, must wear pink panty's to shoot this way successfully.
Just ask Jimmy Blackmon and/or Dewayne. They told me this is their secret formula for being so accurate. And, here you girly men were thinking I was trying to be a wise guy. While in reality I'm simply trying to help you become more proficient archers.

I have switched to 3 under permanently now. I can shoot either way as good as the other but no sore insides of fingers 3under. So I can shoot shorter bows at 32" if I choose to. I hunt pheasants 3 under with no problems. I miss or hit as many as I do split, mostly miss lol. Seriously tho 3under has no down side if you shoot it for a while. I can load and shoot from my back quiver as well and fast as anyone. Its not how you hold the string for the stuff you mentioned or for loading and shooting fast, its the way you hold the arrow while loading. And the arrow falling from the shelf is you torqueing the string by tightening your fingers while drawing.
Justin I'm a pretty big boy so I get my pinks at Columbus tent n awning.

Guess I need to get me some pink panties as I have shot 3 under for years LOL No problem with arrow coming off the rest, or off the string as long as the nock to string fit is good.

Bowbaker, be honest. If you been doing it for years successfully, you have been wearing your pink panties. God Bless

Wouldn't most say that 3 under is more likely to pop an arrow of the shelf? A great shooter like Limbwalker may not have problems, but consider the source. I think split also allows one to pop the arrow off the rest with depressing regularity when you are new to it. I started with split so transitioning to 3 under would not be the same thing as using it for the first time as a rank beginner.

I would 0think split is more likely to pop an arrow off the shelf. Usually the reason an arrow pops off the shelf is from squeezing your fingers tighter at the draw torqueing the string thus twisting the arrow off the shelf. You're more likely to do that if your fingers are pinched tight on the string as in split finger.

"I would 0think split is more likely to pop an arrow off the shelf. Usually the reason an arrow pops off the shelf is from squeezing your fingers tighter at the draw torqueing the string thus twisting the arrow off the shelf."
I think the main way is you pinch the nock and if it is registered to the string with a high nocking point, the lower finger lifts up on the nock and with the nock unable to move up, the shaft comes off the rest. On the other hand some people think they have it liked because the top finger is torquing the sahft onto the rest, which can even be seen as a bend in the arrow.
The purchasable solution is a can't pinch nock. The other on is to place fingers on the string spaced apart at the nock. they get pressed in but tends not to be enough.
" You're more likely to do that if your fingers are pinched tight on the string as in split finger."
The problem with 3 under is that if you are too close to the nock as in the example above, the whole cluster of fingers moves up and lifts the arrow off the rest. Same problem as above, but no digits above the arrow to counter the move, and no digit above the nock to pinch grab the arrow and put it back on the string. Solutions are to just not get too close, and pull back evenly, etc...

Hi,
I shoot both, using a glove, not a tab.
3 under up to about 25 yds - beyond that I change and move to split fingers.
If I shoot split fingers at close distances (under 20 yds), my arrows hit high every time unless I intentionally aim low.
Since I know this, although I donĀ“t know exactly as to why, I simply switch back and forth - depending upon distance from the target.
shoot straight - skookum bow

I don't understand the physics of it either. But I agree with skookum bow. The way I aim and the common yardage I shoot while hunting, 3 under makes me dead on out to about 20 yards. That's how I prefer it.

Im dont consider myself a great shooter just average. Hopefuly a little above but I dont know what average is. That being said i have no problems shooting aerial targets. Cant see why it would be a problem anyway.
