I have heard all the above and Monty Browning is the top.....

From: Blackhawk
Date: 17-Oct-16

Try Frisky since I hear he has no fee and actually pays to give presentations...:)

Seriously, all good ones named above, but I would add Fred Asbell and Larry D. Jones after hearing them speak years ago.

Any or all of them may require big fees, but???

From: wapitichaser

Wensels , Mike Miiten , Monty Browning , Don Thomas

Fred Asbell. Also John Lees, about Howard Hill.

Mitten, Wensels, Browning, Thomas, Asbell.......all very good!!

Barry or Gene Wensel. I favor Barry but Gene is very good. They both are.

From: Chris1960
Date: 17-Oct-16

I should ahve asked if we are talking Bowhunting. Yes? Wensels. No? Rod Jenkins.

From: PECO
Date: 17-Oct-16

Uncle Ted.

From: Blackhawk
Date: 17-Oct-16

Another not mentioned is Joel Turner.

Joel is a champion elk caller as well as nationally known for his approach to beating target panic...and he's a great speaker with a wealth of knowledge.

From: Wiley Coyote
Date: 17-Oct-16

Wensels, Don Thomas, Monty Browning.

From: Jack Hoyt Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I plan to make it back the KYTradfest next year. Fred Eichler would be awesome but that will cost some $$ I asume. He is so busy and has a couple new projects under way. I think Joel Turner would be a great choice!!! He talking about Trad Elk hunting and calling would be great. Good stuff.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 17-Oct-16

I heard Monty tell his grizzly story at a dinner table he was incredible I can still picture the hunt in my mind

From: r.grider
Date: 17-Oct-16

Iguess I should have posted our past 6 speakers, Doug Schlabaugh, Monty Browning, Gene Wensel, G.Fred Asbell, Marv Clynke, And Mike Mitten. They were all excellent, just not ready for repeats.

From: arlone Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 17-Oct-16

I don't know if Steve Gorr does the "speaker" thing, but by watching his videos, it looks like he could give a good presentation about pronghorn, whitetail, blacktail, elk, black bear….. Also Fred Anderson could entertain a room about hunting, bow making and old time bowyers and bowhunters.

From: mgerard Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 17-Oct-16

Uncle Ted the poster boy for poachers and game ranch killing? Everyone else mentioned would be multiples of ten better choices. Both Fred's (G. Fred and Eichler) would be my top choices.

From: Matt Ewing
Date: 17-Oct-16

Frisky would be entertaining

From: Greyfox
Date: 17-Oct-16

Troy, from Swamp People.

From: Blackhawk
Date: 17-Oct-16

Geesh...can't believe I forgot about Steve Gorr and Fred Anderson. They both give outstanding presentations...entertaining to say the least. I've heard them both a couple times and enjoyed them greatly.

From: newt
Date: 17-Oct-16

Fred Eichler is the most interesting and entertaining I have ever heard. Newt

From: Frisky
Date: 17-Oct-16

Count me out. I'd die of carbon monoxide poisoning on the way. However, if I had my car fixed, I could give a talk entitled: How To Aggravate Your Fellow Bowhunter. That said, since Skookum apparently can't make it, how could you beat Steve Gorr?

Jor

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 17-Oct-16

Ted Nugent.

From: NOCKBUSTER Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 17-Oct-16

Hillary Clinton. Fred E would be my choice.

From: South Farm
Date: 18-Oct-16

Fred Asbell, Dwight Schuh, M.R. James, Don Thomas. No offense Nock, but I'd throw tomatoes and walk out if Hillary showed up!

From: Shorthair Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Oct-16

Monty Browning E. Donnall Thomas Jr Clay Hayes Ramblin Rednecks (Gene and Barry) Dick and Yote Robertson Fred Anderson Paul Brunner maybe Fred Eichler or Mike Mitten

I would never ask MR James or Dwight Schuh...why would you want hard core compound shooters to speak at a Trad event? More experienced and capable speakers than them for trad bowhunters.

keep em sharp,

Ron Herman

From: Mpdh

I've only heard a few of the names mentioned, but my no.1 would have to be Gene Wensel. If you happen to go to a Trad show, and the Wensels are there, it's a riot to just sit there and talk at their booth. MP

From: Frisky
Date: 18-Oct-16

Another person who might give a talk (he gives a lot of talks) is Kerry Hardy, our Crookedstix. He has published books on the Indians of the East Coast and is a recurve bow historian. He'd do a good job.

Joe

From: Backcountry
Date: 18-Oct-16

Besides, Kerry could use the speaker's fee for a down payment on another used truck. Hopefully one that won't crap out on him in Colorado next fall.

From: South Farm
Date: 19-Oct-16

"I would never ask MR James or Dwight Schuh...why would you want hard core compound shooters to speak at a Trad event?"

Well I'll tell you why!

1. They are both complete gentlemen and class acts!

2. They have both been to places and hunted animals that most of us can only dream of.

3. They both are great crafters of words and amazing story tellers.

4. They both have made numerous contributions to the "sport" of bowhunting.

5. They both have great respect for the animals they pursue.

6. They both, throughout their careers, have advocated for nothing but quick clean humane kills and being proficient with your bow (be it compound or recurve).

7. They both gave credence to the "Traditional" movement and ways in at least one column or story per issue of Bowhunter Magazine.

I could go on, but if you still think that either of them would be a poor choice I would argue you have never heard them speak, or lack respect for their contributions through the years. They're the "good guys" whether you think so or not..

From: r.grider
Date: 19-Oct-16

Thanks for all the Suggestions, there are some good ones, especially liked Steve Gorr, Have already asked Fred Anderson, another of my favorites, but he cannot make it. Managed to get in touch with Charlie Lamb, and after some considering, he has decided to accept our invitation, so, for 2017 our KyTradFest speaker will be Charlie Lamb. Plan on buying his book if he brings them, and get one signed ! I'm pretty excited about his upcoming appearance, I may not be good for anything else, but I believe I have picked some good guest speakers, so far, they have all done well. See You folks in April !

Anyone heard Bron Tabor speak?

From: Jim Keller
Date: 19-Oct-16

I'd love to hear Barry Wensel. I'd like to hear him tell the story of being stranded in his tree stand by a grizzly. That was my favorite story in his book. Although the whole book was great. One of my favorites.

From: Frisky
Date: 19-Oct-16

What was Barry doing in a tree stand? He should have been on the ground, facing that grizzly! That would have made for a better story!

Joe

From: offtheshelf
Date: 19-Oct-16

Don Thomas or Monty Browning would be my choice. both entertaining stand up guys.

From: Acemudd Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-Oct-16

Byron Tabor is also good....

From: r.grider
Date: 20-Oct-16

Bob Wesley is an EXCELLENT choice, please help me remember that for next year ! Eric, the 2017 KyTradFest is April 7,8,9, it is located at 250 Whites Ln, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. We usually have around 20 vendors, and 300 shoot the course. Its two 20 target courses, you pay and shoot unlimited rounds all weekend. There is also a 10 target smoker round, and American Round, Long Shot, aireals, running boar, free vendor setup, free primitive camping, Saturday blanket trade, live bluegrass music, potluck feast,(with cookoff contest $100 prize) and guest speaker followed by raffle item drawings (vendor donated items). You wont have more fun anywhere without risking going to jail! Bring some friends, and come spend the weekend.

I'm going ahead and putting those dates on my calendar. it's been 4 years since I was able to make it. I hope to get there this year.

From: Ollie Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Many of the guys that have been mentioned will speak for free at non-profit bowhunting events. They ask for nothing more than travel expenses and perhaps a complimentary table if they have books or other items for sale. They want to give back to the sport. In contrast, most of today's video stars will not speak unless you offer them some big bucks. Some give back to the sport, some take from the sport.

One of the sessions at last years Nebraska Bowhunters banquet was Dick Turpin. Dick Mauch was also in the room and it turned into an hour of story telling about their adventures of hunting with other legends of bowhunting (including Fred Bear). Oh how I wish we would have recorded that. Some of the best history and stories I've ever heard.

From: Murray Seratt Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I also suggest buying Charlie's book. It's an excellent read.

When in April? All the above posts say nothing about the dates.

From: David Mitchell Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Jan-17

Ooops, my bad, I found the dates in one of Randy's post. Looking forward to it. This is one fine event and great folks who put it on. It is the beginning of the shoot season for me every year. Rain, snow, or sunshine we go. :o)

From: AspirinBuster
Date: 18-Jan-17

Dick Mauch, 90, has the most interesting talks you can imagine. Getting him to travel that far may be a challenge but he is the absolute best. While many of the speakers you mention are great, while they were just getting into Archery Dick was on adventures with Fred Bear in places like Africa. He's been there and had a front row seat for the beginning of the Pope and Young Club, AMO (later became ATA), and other important bench marks in our modern sport's history. Ask anyone from Compton or Nebraska about Dick, he is probably the last of Fred's inner circle... he's the best. A truly great man.

Larry D. Jones but keep in mind I'm partial because he taught me how to shoot trad and has been a mentor too me.

Dwight Schuh, Larry's best friend, is one of the most adventurous bow hunters of our time. Dwight and Larry were hard core before people put such emphasis on being wilderness athletes.

DR Jack Frost first guy to take the recognized 29 Pope and Young big game animals. He does some traditional bow hunting.

Wayne Carlton of Carlton calls was a very entertaining and insightful speaker as well.

Peter Iacavazzi is a traditional bow hunter that primarily told stories and shared pictures of his friends Paul Schafer, the Wensel brothers and how he formed relationships with land owners to harvest some of his giant mule deer.

I've seen all of these guys and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. They are all entertaining and do a great presentation. Larry and Dwight are my favorites probably because they pioneered a lot of the Western bow hunting techniques for elk and mule deer.

When you get married in Fred Bear's office and his secreatary performs the ceremony, you probably have a story or two to share. Dick and Carol were married In Fred's office. You can not do better than Dick Mauch if he will do it.

I find it funny the comment about MR and Dwight Schuh as they have probably killed more stuff with a recurve or longbow then most guys on this site. They have been hunting long before compounds came about. I would like to hear some that are not well known but have hunted with some legends like Kelly Petersen who goes by Kelly on this site. I think he is a wealth of knowledge. Scooby

Larry Jones and Dwight made a great elk hunting movie years ago called Elon fever. It was great. Those guys are top shelf.

Dwight and Chuck Adams share a birthday, May 21 if my memory serves me right.

MR James is ok too. I've known him many years. Good guy. He has Fred bear's Rolex watch.

Good luck with whoever you use. There are lots of good speakers.

However, if you need a good show or exhibition I may have an idea there too.

Hahahaha

Anyway, good luck.
