When will the new Bear 2017 catalog be available?

From: fdp
Date: 14-Oct-16

Probably be a good idea to ask Bear? Or one of the sponsor's here that is a big Bear dealer? Big Jim comes to mind.

Here's hoping for a re-issue of the venerable 1964-65 Grizz in zebra.

They'd sell like hotcakes baby...hotcakes!

I think if they want to do another reintroduction, the Kodiak Hunter would make sense; however, just because a dozen guys or so on the Leatherwall think it's a good idea, doesn't mean it's a good idea financially. They have done a very commendable job with their retros over the past half dozen years or so.

Dual shelf Kodiak, baby. Gold...

Just plain maple will suffice.

I think number 2s would sell like hot cakes!!

Well heck there was a time in the mid to late 2000s when the K mag was not in production (at least I never saw it anywhere, including the Bear site) It got a comeback in 2011 for its 50th. I'd just like to see the bows go back to an older look. The dye on the K mags are too light in color compared to the Futurewood of the 70s. I'd like to see a gloss finish in all bow models. Better silk screening on all models, and the model name silk screened on the front if it is a more expensive model. Kodiak TD should not because tgey origionally did not. Not sure about the black beauties they are making, the K mag they are going for the 70s look so they can stay on the belly. Also I find diamondwood uggly, I like my 98 TD but not a fan of a plywood riser. Like my guns: all wood stocks except for a cva muzzleloader. I don't even own a laminate stock.

I'm too nit-picky. The only bows I'd consider buying would be a 59 Kodiak, a black beauty Super Kodiak, and possibly a TD. Those are the only bows that are asthetically acceptable to me. Don't get me started for why lefties get the bunt end of the shaft on bow weights though. Common, at least make it possible upon request! I'll wait for a few months!

Enough of my ranting and raving. But they should allow one to buy a 59 kodiak with the 62 gray glass. Its the same bow form, and I'd be 5th in line to buy.

I remember stopping in Gainesville about this time last year, with hopes of grabbing a 2016 catalog. They were waiting for them to arrive then, so I'd guess the 2017 versions should be soon if Bear releases them the same time every year.

I'll check tomorrow on my way to North Carolina for the week.

I would like them to bring back the "B" riser in magnesium or some metal type in the same.

From: Blackhawk

Phenolic Super Magnum, #2 TD limbs, and even the 64/65 Zebra Griz and George's Kodiak Hunter would be cool.

It's true the few of us here have zero input in what Bear will do, but we can dream.

Bring back the Kodiak Hunter.

I got a box of catalogs two days ago. I think the big announcement is due on Monday so I'm not saying anything.

I've handled and shot all the new compound line. Haven't seen traditional yet. Got to hang and have great conersation share valuable input with Bears newest Director of Sales and NEW Production Manager. Great guys with nothing but pure intention of continuing to build on Bear Archery's Legacy and vastly increase production quality. There Are undoubtedly great things to come from the best archery company ever.

I was out of the shop all day yesterday and will be out again today, so I'm not sure what Bear has said. I can tell you there is a new wood option for the Montana in the catalog and the Black Beauty now has a satin finish instead of the gloss finish. I'm not sure but both might be available. There are a couple other changes for the Traditional line but can't remember them off the top of my head.

TTT

Anybody seen/heard anything? Also, looking at the current online lineup, does the take-down still have the compass? Looks like they lost the compass... anyway, just curious if they re-introduced anymore cool classics.

And, regarding the Kodiak Hunter, I don't think that would be a good bow to reintroduce - there's a bazillion clean old ones out there for $150, and they don't have a great rep for stellar performance. I'd like to see a 1960 Kodiak, or even a 1961/62 Kodiak re-issue. And, I especially would like to see the 59 Kodiak (if they keep producing it) in a 64" model, that might actually get me to spend some money.

Regarding my trip through Gainesville last month - I ended up waking up early that morning. I passed by the Bear plant before they were even open, so I didn't bother stopping.

A 64" '59r would have gotten my interest before, but if one more bow comes into the house, I might be out of it !

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Define "stellar performance". The Kodiak Hunter was introduced the same year as the Kodiak was changed to Super Kodiak. It was kind of a late-bloomer and folks nowadays are beginning to find a lot to like about them. And if you put a modern string on that bow, it will keep up with a lot of others. And matter of fact, you have to rate bows on like design anyway....not a totally different model altogether. As for the 60 Kodiak, the 59 is so much like it that it wouldn't make sense.

How about a 1949 grizzly remake?

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 18-Dec-16

I would rather see them address good training and build their quality for a year to build a little better consistency. This isn't a business where you just put parts in a product and send it down the line. So maybe build some continuity between the starting process and the shipping department so what does come out more reflects a great product. They are doing a good job in my opinion, but consistency could always be better, and reflect well on the Fred Bear name.

From: M60gunner
Date: 18-Dec-16

First, a metal riser like the Mag riser. With CNC I still cannot see it being a big issue. I also agree with George on a training program for the workers. But when dealing with a product that requires hand work there will be some individualism. Better QC will help keep some of that to a minimum.

I'd like the second lam put back in the grizzly, please. Don't care what it adds or takes away from performance, I just flat out will not buy a newer grizzly , and that's the reason why.

From: Frank V
Date: 18-Dec-16

I like George D. Stouts suggestion, reintroduce the Bear Kodiak Hunter. The hunter is a great bow. It's the one I started with many years ago & I traded for one a couple of years ago & I hunt with it a lot.

From: BobG
Date: 18-Dec-16

I have to agree with Stephengiles about the second lamination on the Grizzly. I have had both and have sold the ones with just one lamination. I'll never buy another one with just one lamination. If it was an improvement Ithink Fred Bear would have done it years ago. I feel like it is a cost cutting deal. BobG.

Still have not seen a 2017 Bear Archery catalog (traditional or not). Been searching online for them real hard for downloading. Nothing....It's already mid-February 2017 too.

A "B" mag or a 64" 59er, either of those could have me in trouble..

From: lonfitz
Date: 15-Feb-17

I too wish that they would reissue the "A"and "B" mag risers or at the very least the grips. It's probably a better bow than the wood versions.

Dont tell anyone I agree with GDS.Make them better- Michelangelo said trifles make perfection and perfection is no trifle.
