Got two postal money orders ( identical amounts ) that were for way more than I was asking for my bow. The sender uses the number 720-551-7074, which is a Colorado number, but is using a New York address. This number has been reported previously as associated with scams. Thinking of just mailing the money orders back and reposting my add. Caller ( with accent ) suggested I cash the money orders and send him the difference ) over $900. Any suggestions?

DoctorK, it is a scam do not fall for it, Im an Investigator for the Sheriff's Office in my home County, I would just throw money orders away and just re-post your add.

Your first mistake might have been not recognizing scam. Re-list bow and guard who you sell to.

Thanks. I told him there were too many suspicious aspects to this deal and that I was sending the money orders back. He kept begging me to cash them but just now relented and asked me to tear them up rather than sending them back. Thanks to all for the wisdom and I will try to be more careful.

It is so sad that a few people have to ruin my, our trust of people. I like to think archers are some of the most stand up people out there, but i guess that is what they are praying on. -Dave (69 super kodiak)

I guess you could have cashed them and then got another MO and sent back to him with item you were sending. If it seems wrong up front it usually don't get better more often? Sounded fishy don't wait to see scales or smell it. First defense is best sometimes.
Look I'm sorry don't like how this is going and I don't feel comfortable selling. Maybe something like that then don't let them pursued you into thinking it might work out?
Maybe we all been there a time or two?

I've sold one bow on here....no problems with that one. The guy that bought it actually lived <50 miles from me. So met up, exchanged cash and bow. Ideal situation but I know not all transactions go this smooth. FYI, I'm going to put another bow on the classifieds, so if you see my name.....I'm not a scammer. Hahahahaha. Marsha

You cash the money order at your bank and send him the difference. Then when it kicks back cause its no good your bank takes it from your account.

I am taking them to the post office Monday to see if they a real USPS money orders. If they aren't I will get a postal inspector involved. If they are real I will cash one and send him a broomstick with a piece of clothersline attached at both ends.

I suspect this might be part of a larger money laundering scheme, so I will call the local FBI office and ask how to proceed.

Just happened to me. I remembered you guys saying watch out for scammers. They sent me 2 checks for 674.15 sent it fed ex and was even so kind at 5:55 this morning texting me good morning my name. And texted that his blond secretary sent the wrong check which was meant for the movers. Movers for my bow. Alrighty then watch out and I went to you guys here to find out what you had to say. Thanks

Have not posted in awhile just a shame with some people, I have bought, sold, and traded several bows on this site with all going smoothly. Typically make phone contact prior to transaction wind up talking hunting or shooting and know I am dealing with decent person and hopefully they felt the same.

I took the money orders to the post office today. They were counterfeit. Postal Inspector took them and my contact information. I hope they can nail this scammer. This pains me more because I have the bows on the classifieds because I am in dire financial states.
