Recently picked up a vintage Wing Gull for my wife on the big auction site. Bow is in near mint condition with beautiful zebra wood riser and tiny tips. Looking for a little background info on the bow, aprox. year and how it stacks up with other Wing bows of that era.

Good for you Zino! You outbid me on that beauty! Didnt see the tips on those listing photos, but I have one same vintage, same glass, wood and draw weight, same decals and script, its an early 60's as far as I can determine, probably 63- 64 is my best guess. Fantastic shooter, use mine as a form training bow, you will not be disappointed in the least. Bob Lee design, built when he still owned Wing Archery. There are several wallers who know much more than I about Wing, they will most likely stop by...

I have NEVER seen a Wing Gull with a piece of Zebrawood in it like that. Bob or Jim must have been in a special bow building mood that day.

Nice.

She will love it.

Early one I'd say, late 60's.

J&M had three of those Gull bows a few years back and I didn't buy one of them. I should have. One had tips just like that but was not zebrawood, but it was very nice. Bob Lee didn't make any bad bows, and that one is very nice. I'm thinking mid to late 60's also.

My guess would be early 60's because of the tiny tips.

Zino -

The few Wing Gulls I've shot were sleepers. Plain Jane, but a lot faster than expected for the given draw weight. I've seen them go from $60 to over $300 on eBay over the years. Anything under $100 is a steal. Congrats.

Viper out.

Great purchase Zino, haven't seen one like that before.

Zino

I have one that is almost a carbon copy of yours. My brother got it for me in the mid to late 60's used but in good shape. My wife shot it quite a bit and I made the mistake of putting a fastflight string on it which broke a tip off. I have since shortened the bow and remade the tips but I don't care for the way it shoots now. Took quite a few squirrels with that bow as a kid.

That zebra riser is wonderful!

My GF's Gull (#9858 - Wing Archery Co medallion) has the "plain jane" pecan-colored riser. It's 5/8" across the widest part of the arrowhead shape so it's not the "tiny" version. At 32# this Gull has more than enough zip with B50 so no excuse for non- stretch (B50 from 60X at this weight has not stretched at all).

I have an old Wing Gull but it is very plain dark wood. Yours is beautiful. I originally bought it for my wife,as it is 28# at 28". It is right at 35-36# at my draw length and I have used it for 30 years to warm up before shooting hunting bows. It is a good smooth shooter. Ken
