riser and stabilizer bushing thanks for any opinions, I have to say in the past year that I have been visiting and posting to this forum I've learned more than in the previous 15 about all aspects of trad archery, thanks to all of you--and visited areas of the country and hunts I'd never have seen--all from my couch!

I'm thinking 73 but the more knowledgeable Howatt folks will be along shortly.

TTT I'm thinking Georege is right. And looking at the tips that bow MIGHT have been built by Larry Hatfield.

Think George is correct. The wood is East Indian Rosewood and would have been Brazilian in 1963. Does look like one of mine. I liked sharp lines and definition.

interesting..thanks guys I was searching the forum threads earlier and read a comment from Larry that Howatt made the Catalina up to 1965? that's why I was wondering about a possible 1963ish date--but that logo makes me think its later.I am not quite certain when the transition from the conquistador logo to the DH bow logo happened...

very cool...73 was a good year! was there any change in the design from the early sixties to the seventies? thank you Larry

Ok, so the Catalina arrived today, in remarkably clean shape considering the auction site seller shipped her in what has to be the worst jury rigged box I've yet seen, my eight year old could build a better box; and with only an old t shirt for padding. Any way, new photos for the Howatt folks, still thinking 73? Its a beauty though I did not expect the size/mass of the riser...cant wait to shoot her but have to order a string. No AMO in the script, but not certain how closely that practice may have been followed on every bow...anyway, thanks as always for your insights on this latest focus of my addiction! 8)

thanks Buzz, now just the wait on the string...beautiful country up there in BC, visited it many years ago, still imprinted on my brain, the color of the rivers, the ravens and ospreys, the coastline--you are a lucky man!

Hi,

Very nice riser. Will you be shooting it of the shelf or from a glue on rest like on your Monterey ??

shoot straight - skookum bow

Hi skookum bow, thanks! I've shot the Monterey both off the shelf and just switched to the rest, will try both with the Catalina too...I tend to prefer the rests but really like the look of the off the shelf setup...gives me more to tinker with going back and forth 8)
