Found a Howett Archery Cavalier bow at a garage sale yesterday. It's in pretty rough shape but the limbs are straight. I plan on refinishing and doing some minor repairs. It shoots great and I'm looking forward to hunting with it and shooting some 3D.

Got a question for the experts. What can you tell me about the bow from the serial number and markings.

The only markings are the name "Cavalier by Howett Archery " on the side of the handle where the limb starts and HOA 3540-60" WT 49# @ 28" Now of course I know that she's a 60" bow with a draw of 49" at 28" but I'm curious to know about the year she was made and anything else that could be known by the description. Most of the Howett bows I see on here have the DH symbol but this one doesn't. Any help would be appreciated.

Btw, I'd add some pictures but all I've got is an IPhone and I don't know how to do it.

Probably a 1973.

The Cavalier was one of DHs entry to mid range hunting bows. Only entry level in that, the riser isn't overly ornate or sculpted. No fancy laminations. BUT, they are ALL Howatt, and shoot beautifully. You found a really good shooting hunting bow in a nice weight. You did well if you didn't pay a ton for it. It deserves refurbishing!

It's Howatt. Not Howett, and the Cavalier is a very fine bow..a 60" rocket designed by the man Larry Hatfield.

woodshavins, I actually got the bow for free. It was one of the last items in the garage sale. The bow had a price tag of $40.00 but the owner was wanting to call it a day so he just gave it away. I was really impressed how well it shot my custom wood arrows. She's a keeper for sure.

George D. Stout, thank you for correcting me. I was hurrying as I was typing and didn't stop to verify my spelling. Thank you also for the information. It's great to know the details of my bow.

I have one that I got in a second hand shop. Got it plus a Herters Perfection Sambar and a Damon Howatt Bandito for $20.

It's a very nice shooting bow but the grip does not fit me very well, whereas the grip on the Bandito is perfect. The bandito being a 20# @28" is used mostly by the kids.

Just can't bring myself to go at the Cavalier with rasps and sanding drums.
