Learned a few new things from another thread and didn't want to hijack it.

I believe it was from the wisdom of gluetrap that I read that the mysterious hole in the riser of my Herters Sambar Hunter is for- a brush rest?!

Never would have guessed that. Figured it was for some groovy plunger (like in a few of my Colts) that I would never see. I imagine the rest has been unobtanium for decades now but does anyone know what they look like (or a known way to fabricate one?)

I know they are widely reviled by some but I have really taken a liking to the brush rests on my Tamerlanes and would like to get a proper one onto this Herters if i can pull it off.

Thanks to anyone with info to offer!

Hi,

The rest looks like a small shaving brush with stiff bristles.

Saw or read where someone made one. He epoxies monifiament fishing line into a empty .22 rim fire case, then trimmed the case to length and installed in the riser.

These Herters brush rests are a press in fit.....no need for glue. They work great; quiet, narrow surface area, sturdy enough for the heaviest of arrows. You will only need two for your lifetime, not because one will wear out, just because you should always have spares of anything that works well as the manufacturer stops making them.

You can still buy a version of the Para Rest I think from Black Widow. It is an adhesive backed rest. Not quite the same, but that are still great rests and very much in tune with the historical time period of that bow if that's what you're looking for.

Hi,

The original Herters brush rest came with a round leather strike plate with a hole in the middle.
