Picked up a checkmate hunter II with 2 sets of limbs. I have not shot it yet ,but was looking for a little history on them and any info from guys that shoot them --Thank you for all replies.

Thanks Kevin, Mine had the same wood as the limbs in your picture. Do you remember what type of wood was used in those limbs. Thanks for the history

Marc still owns the company and is still building bows, just not for general sale...Marc worked as bowyer for Dorothy and Larry for about 20 years before they decided to pull away from the business...for some time after he bought Chek-Mate Marc built and marketed a lot of bows, building about 250 Beaver Creek longbows in his first year making those bows...I got a Beaver Creek blank very quickly and ordered a Hunter III at the same time...then things kind of went south in a hurry...long story short it took about 4 years before I finally got the Hunter III riser...Marc, like so many artists, is really not much of a businessman...currently I have a 52 inch Cascade, the Beaver Creek, a set of takedown limbs and 2 risers, the Hunter III lefty and a right handed Hunter...I am still hoping I may get another set of limbs one day...the limbs are completely interchangeable between the Hunter, Hunter II and Hunter III risers

Marc is a great fan of yew in limbs...most of his limbs, including yours, are made with very nice yew that he gets from a supplier on Vancouver Island

I've got three Chekmates and I ain't parting with them. They are all exceptionally smooth and really durable. Camodave is right. Marc isn't much of a businessman but his bows are works of art with respect to both both aesthetics and performance.

I'm the happy owner of Kevin's bow, and as far as I'm concerned it's about the best bow ever...and then I checkered the grip and made it just a little bit better.

I had a Hunter II with two sets of limbs, a really great shooting and looking bow. Just not a recurve guy otherwise it would still be mine.

Are all Checkmate bows fast flight friendly?

They are good looking bows and obviously they knew how to build them.

I use a Ten Ring string made from Fury on my 62" Cascade Whitetail Hawk...no problem. a properly made low stretch won't hurt a bow.

They're very nice bows. I like the way the limbs are fitted into a recess in the riser.

I bought a used CM Falcon Signature CM 2100, with a thunderhorn quiver, arrows and accessories, from a guy for 225.00 I love the bow, he just did not have time, for trad archery, and since it was left handed, could not find a buyer, so he said, to his archery shop, just sell it for that, just want to see it goes to someone, who likes trad,,,,,, money was not important

I have one that looks a lot like KPCs minus the gloss finish on the riser 45 and 52# limbs. Not a bad thing to say about it

I have 3 CM Hunters....two Hunter 2's and I have a new Hunter 3. The Hunter 3 is the fastest due to the straighter riser. The oldest bow is an early 90's model, all I've ever used on any of them were Fast Flight strings. I've owned a bunch of recurves thru the years and CM's are the most accurate bows I've shot.

My first stickbow was a 70" Chekmate Golden Hawk longbow with yew limbs that I purchased new in 1990. Then I got a couple of the Hunter recurves with bubinga risers and yew limbs (beautiful!). Then a 52" Hawk Magnum recurve with black laminated maple riser and black limbs. They were all nice bows. I wish CM was still around. Great bows at a very reasonable price.

Back in the late 70's I lived in Vancouver and met Doroty and Larry through a close friend Ron Boorman from Boorman Archery in Newwestminster B.C,I've known Ron for 40 years, helped him in his shop on occasion.I moved to abbotsford and became quite close to Larry and Dorothy thru a Bowhunting buddy of mine Ron Cook, who owned Eagle Archery in Abbotsford. Ron and I use to visit Dorothy and Larry in the evenings at their shop ,we got to watch CM bows being built. They were great Archers,Bowyers and even better people.Over the years I've Owned probably every model of bows they produced, sometimes having as many as 8 or 9 of their bows on hand.I even owned many of their wheel bows which were way ahead of their times.I had many one of a kind customs built for me .Today I sadly only own one.A goldenhawl ASL my wife bought me for Xmas right from Dorothy. Its got mine and my wifes name on it.# lams of yew with clear glass and still shoots better than any Hill style bow I.ve ever shot. To get ahold of Mark Contact Ron or Bill at Boorman Archery ( phone 1-604-5241674 )Mark deals with Ron almost exclusively and gets orderd bows to him in real good time.Chek-mate bows are great bows .Its just to bad the company went the way they did.

Not sure about the older versions but the Chekmates made since the 90's should all be fast flite friendly. All of mine are.
