I was mowing this week with my 74 year old Ford 9N and at the last second realized I was going to run over one of my nicely capped and crested GT .600 Entradas that fell out of my quiver and was laying in the lawn. The arrow took the full weight of front and back wheels of the tractor, about 2,500#, but the mower was higher than the arrow so missed it.

I flexed it many many times with no ticks or noise so apparently no harm done. The arrow must have flexed enough in the ground to keep it from harm. Try that with a woody.

I try not to run over my arrows for the most part, but good to know it survived. Just keep an eye on those carbons, they can crush and explode on the shot, so ever alert. I imbedded an aluminum XX75 in a tree today and had to dig enough to get to the back of the field point, then unscrewed it. It's still straight too. I love all arrows.

Unfortunately my experience has been the complete opposite of yours.... I snap .600 spine carbons like they're twigs. I like to spread empty water bottles around my yard and shoot them with blunts. It's rare that an arrow lasts more than a few shots (usually break midway up the shaft). I never broke or bent aluminums doing this. Obviously I've quit shooting water bottles which I love to do.

Once I finish my last carbons, I'm going back to aluminums. I was hoping they would work for me. I love the way carbons look and they fly great.

I kind of figured it may be because of the weaker spine. But I have used 1916 aluminums for years, which are similar in spine.

Alan,I have used wiod ,,aluminum, Ive used Gokd Tips some and they seem to be tough.

I think aluminum are tougher than most folks think they are. I love wood, use to get the Bear wiod arrows in thw 70s but I prefer aluminum.

I broke a few carbons going through animals as well as Turkeys also. You must have caught a break on this on. Put them down on hard surface and then drive over them it might turn out differently. Hope not but it could? LOL

I use Gold tips also they seem tuff but when an animal breaks one that's a different situation however they do it. Fall on it or rub against a tree? I shot a bird couple years ago that jumped in a tree or he tried to and fell to ground dead the arrow stopped him. Arrow was in 2 pieces darn thing broke my arrow.

I find my arrows with a disc , usually sliced in pieces . The ones that skip off the top of a target.

Had my grand kids shooting at water bottles they had a great time. I can't post pictures or videos on here with my mini pad. Or I would love to. They were using wood arrows. No failures with the and punched nice holes to.

That's a tough arrow Reddogge.

Like all arrows, not all carbons are the same. I've found some brands (GT) to be extremely tough, but have found others that were not nearly as tough.

I have found the Carbon Express Heritage arrows to be nearly indestructible. I have been very surprised by what they can endure. I recently tried the Traditional Only carbon shafts from 3R and was very disappointed with their durability. I noticed that when I do break a Heritage shaft the break is rough and fibrous, whereas the Traditional Only shafts broke with sharp edges. I think that there is a difference in construction. Never going back to aluminum, that's for sure.

I've been shooting GT blems for years and they are the toughest arrows I've ever shot. They take a trememdous amount of abuse getting whanged off of trees and bounced around on the ground and stumps. They don't take hitting rocks well though. This was the lightweight Entrada though.

Kinda jumped off topic with that Anyhow I shoot the 3rivers Carbon and yes there a bit weak Beman center shots are really tough and would have to hit a rock dead on to damage them.

I seem to have the same problem as Resqpointr. I shoot 35/55 Gold Tip with judo tips at soda bottles in the yard and if I can get 20 shots with out breaking it in the middle I'm lucky. I'm sure it is the sharp flex when it hits the ground at a angle or I might have bought a bad batch. I still shoot soda bottles in the yard but I use wood or aluminum. BobG.

I shoot GT 1535 and 3555 Trad blems. I foot them with a 1 inch piece of 2117 aluminum. I have yet to break or damage one while stumping with my 45 and 50 pound bows.

Resqpointer.....what brand .600 spine carbons are you shooting that break mid shaft when shooting plastic bottles in your yard?

BobG......your experience and mine are totally night and day. Maybe you did get a bad batch!

Well nothing...nothing is indestructible as far as arrow material goes. The archery range just behind my property has carbon shards laying everywhere, as does Chestnut Ridge club. Just don't bet apathetic about checking them...they will indeed rupture if the get a crush on the side. I'm happy with my aluminum arrows and I'm still working on the 14 I started the summer with. And I stump shoot.

Reaper. I'm shooting the 3Rivers "Traditional Only" shafts.

Wow, what are you guys shooting that you break arrows so easily? I break carbons too, when I miss and hit a rock. Bounced them off trees and they where fine, still using them. I was going to switch back to wooden arrows, then I went to ETAR for the first time and saw broken wooden arrows all over the courses. Happy with carbons, they take a beating and keep on going.
