Booked an Alberta Moose hunt in Alberta for 2017. Thinking of taking my new ThunderChild on the hunt. Bow is 56" 51# @ 28". I draw to 28". Been experimenting with arrow spine and weight and found Easton 2018's cut to 30" with 200 gr up front fly pretty darn well. Total weight as I rcall may be around 620 gr. I have the option of taking my Tall Tines 56# @ 28" instead. What do you suggest I do? Will 5# @ 28" make that much of a difference? Thanks for your input.

I'd take the bow you shoot the most accurately and I would shoot at least 550gr. The heavier bow will give you more distance and a faster arrow compared to the same arrow out of the lighter weight bow.

Moose are big critters with a tough, thick hide and thick ribs. You want to get all the way through. The 56# bow will increase your chance of doing so. Plenty of time to become comfortable with that weight if you're not already. Good luck.

Hey Tim, I booked through Bowhunting Safari Consultants (Savage Encounters). Hunt is a little pricey but it is a one on one 6 day hunt during Alberta's prime rut.

Super/duper SHARP Broadhead out of the 51# Thunderchild hitting that moose in the boiler room will take him plenty fast. What a fun hunt that would be! newt

Sharp broad head and heavy arrow and the lighter bow is plenty.

If you can comfortably handle the heavier draw and shoot it equally well go with the heavier draw. Moose are a pretty big critter and you need adequate penetration. Even more important is ensuring that you have a well-balanced arrow with a good cut on contact broadhead that will help ensure maximum penetration.

What weight did you use when you went to Newfoundland ? Something change your mind about your moose setup after that trip ? I would shoot as heavy as I can shoot well just to keep my trajectory as flat as possible with that fairly heavy arrow.

No success so far...beaten back by weather and a hunting partner who cannot stay away from the bottle...gonna be guiding Felix aka cacciatore around the end of the month...in the meantime gonna be content to just hunt elk and deer and cougars and wolves and coyotes and foxes and birds

I was hoping to see some moose taken with a recurve or longbow pictures. I always wanted to hunt moose. I applied for the drawings in Maine and Colorado for years but never got drawn. I'll have to start applying again. Maybe look into Newfoundland, or New Brunswick Canada.
