My new, one year old 59 Bear Kodiak's finish is cracking on the lower limb belly fade out area. Live with it or send it back? 45#.

I've seen his bow and it's not pretty in the cracking area. My vote is to send it back to Bear and believe they will take care of it. Bear's customer service is top notch these days.

A fella I shoot with has the same issue, happened after about 4 weeks of shooting. Bear would not help him on this, said it was just the finish and would not effect the shootability of the bow. He feels pretty let down by Bear.

Barber . You better read further down the warranty page from Bear Archery. . Traditional bows only have a 1 year warranty to the original purchaser.

I guess I missed that ! Lol I'm sorry but a one year warranty is not worth a darn ! When people pay there hard earned money for a bow there should at least be a 3 year warranty . Omega longbows offer a lifetime warranty and his bows cost half the price of some Bear bows. A company like Bear can do better than a one year.

I have a 2012 Kodiak Mag., well my son does, and it has done the same thing but he doesn't want to send it back because it is the anniversary model with the green glass and they don't use green glass on the new one. I just bought a new Grizzly right before his got the stress lines hope the griz don't do that. I have a 72' grizzly with no stress lines. I want a take down or a 59 Kodiak but I am afraid to spend that kind of money and have it develop stress lines after a year and be stuck with it. They need to correct this problem.

I don't know how tight they are on the one year warranty, but I would still check with Bear and see. They have provided me excellent service. We here can't do a thing about it--call Bear.

I wonder if it was a bad batch of bows. I purchased the same one a little over a year ago as well and I draw 29" I was worried that the same thing was going to happen to mine. But so far so good. I would call bear.

Even if it just cosmetic It would upset me every time I looked at it. I would be very disappointed in Bear if they do not help with full warranty or at least pro-rate the cost of a replacement.

Nemah,
Without question Bear should immediately repair or replace your very defective Kodiak bow. What your photos show is definitely not the sort of fade out checking that can be called "normal" for Bear or any other maker of bows.
Please let the Leatherwall know how Bear responds to you. I think a lot of people will be interested in hearing how Bear handles this case.

I had a similar situation with a Bear Cheyenne a couple of years ago. Not as bad as this. I sent a picture to Bear customer service and right away was assured they would replace the bow which they did. The finish on my newer Bears which I have collected over the last couple of years have been excellent with no checking at all on two SKs, a 59er, and a TD.

Bear has been very good about these things in the past couple years, I don't know why they wouldn't fix it. There's always two sides...at least, to every story. Talking about it here doesn't do much good. Call Bear, and tell them how bad it is....email a photo, and I'll bet they will take care of you.

And be respectful when you call them. Likely that more than one issue was not solved due to a customer being an ass from the get- go. Nice usually works much better.
