The recent thread on the Hoyt Pro-Medalist prompted me to post a few pictures of a Pro-Hunter I've had for a while to get an idea on when it was made.
I suspect the very early 60's. The rosewood I-beam construction is nice and the tiny tips are beautiful...I actually have to be careful stringing it to make sure the loop is in the grooves!
Earl sure knew what he was doing. A simple design that's functional and elegant.
This one is 58" and 64#. It whistles a 2117 down the range!

Here are the specs...I noticed there is no number before the PH so that's what leads me to think it's early 60's.

Those scratches on the specs are the only marks on the bow...probably a story there with a few good cuss words!
It's PH16575 and 64#.
Here's a pic of the riser...

I think your guess of the early 60's is probably correct. I was told mine was from the 50's.

Love that I-beam. I have one that I suspect is 70s vintage, but would also like to know how to interpret the serial number to pin down the date. Hopefully, someone in the know will educate us. And I agree, these are terrific bows.

First PMs were made in 1961. The manufacture of 2PMs began in 1964

Wonder if the Hunter's were the same.
And yes Scotty, it buries a 2117 deep!
Very quiet without silencers...

Low country...that 50's Hoyt of your is really nice.
I have a few 50's Roots and they look a lot like that Hoyt with the overdraw and tip profile.
I think those guys were looking over each other's shoulders!

It's quite possible that the bow was just designed by Earl, and built for Hoyt by another company. I know from Larry Hatfield that Howatt made some bows for Hoyt back in the day.

Timberline...where did you find the information on the Pro Medalists?
Interesting theory concerning Howatt George. They built bows for Whiffen as well. I just picked up a Wasatch made by Howatt. I believe Larry said that ended around 1962.
