Im thinking of personalizing my bow by writing something on it. I would like to know a good paint pen to use. Also Id like to protect it by some coats of truoil

what would be compatable?

I use Rapidograph tech pens for black. For silver or gold Prismacolorpens. These are what I use on bamboo fly rods. I already have a thin coat of Tru Oil on blank. I do let the blank set overnite before I put on more Tru Oil. These products work for me. Other rod makers use INDIA ink and a pen. I have had mixed results with sharpies. It could be i did not remove enough of the sheen from the blank before I wrote on it.

Calligraphy pens and gold, black or white ink is what I prefer.

I use Nano Liners. They are just an art pen, but after 3 years of using the same one its going strong and still looks good on my bows. I should switch up to India ink and a quill. Its sharper, cleaner and stays bold and bright.

X2 on what Phil said. Tried a bunch of different pens, all blurred. Bought the Calligraphy pens and India ink, great results.

I don't think I'd use Tru-Oil either! I think it would smear your writing and ruin it. What about Minwax spray on poly or Krylon clear?

The classic method is india ink with an old fashioned dip pen point, still available at art stores. Once it dries thoroughly it will not smear from Tue-Oil of much of anything else. - lbg

Hey Preston.....I use the India ink and calligraphy pen if I do ink....don't know if you remember the writing I had on my selfbow at Twin Oaks, but I did it with a wood burning tool. Marsha

I use a fine point sharpie and water based Minwax for the cover coat. Oil based poly smeared the writing.

India ink and a dip pen is the way to go. Don't use water based ink for the dip pen it will be no bueno...you can get all sorts of nibs for any sort of writing too.
