I went to visit my brother in Walla Walla WA to see how he was doing. IN his Garage I saw an arrow. Attached to the arrow was a Howatts Eldorado 69 inches and 40LBs in mint condition. i asked about it and he purchased in 1969 and hunted with it for the first time ever archery deer season in WA State. Then he hung it in his garrage. Now its mine. Who knows anything about this bow. It looks more like a target then a hunting bow. Oh, that first hunting season he missed a buck by a mile so stuck with his 30-06. Oh, I need a string for it know any string makers as its 69 inches and 40lbs at 28. The string looks good but just hanging way to long

Nice looking bow.

Can you see ant #'s on it?

Believe it's late 50's early 60's.

Enjoy.

I think a 65" string would do the trick however you should check in that. I also believe that the string should be DACRON.

I would check out silent but deadly strings. Great service and strings

Can you post a picture or write if the weight and a single number is stamped in the upper sight window? If not, what is the full serial number? You should string the bow up with the string that is with it. I think you will find that it's somewhere around 7"-71/4" brace from the deepest part of the grip. Then, just measure your string at the height you have determined is right and order from that measurement.

Its stamped 40lbs in the upper sight window and the Serial # below the 40lbs stamp is DP37222

With that serial number, stamping and the riser layup it is looks like a 1960 or 1961 to me, but Mr. Hatfield can confirm. The stamping in the sight window ended in 1961, according to a post from Larry.

Does it have the Eldorado decal with the mounted conquistadore and the sun rays on it? I suspect it does as you mentioned it was an Eldorado. There should be another small decal that says Palomar (that's the model) as the DP in the window stands for Diablo Palomar. if you look carefully I suspect there is an E before the DP as well. (Eldorado Diablo Palomar.)

Does it also have the Ne Plus Ultra Decal?

I'm attaching a photo of the decals on one I actually just bought.

The Palomar is a target bow, and a really good one.

Here's the riser...I think this is a 1959 model. These are the listing pictures as it is being shipped.

Looking at yours and at mine I think mine is around 1958 and yours 1961. The additional laminations on the face of the bow (replicated in the Sabre and Super Diablo in the late 90's) came later.

Here's a picture of another one I have that I'm now going to move along.

If you measure it along the belly I suspect you will find your bow measures close to 67" nock to nock so a 64" string will be good.

Larry's advice to string it with the string on it is excellent because if the brace measures 7.5" to the pivot point then you're in the money.

I look forward to Larry commenting on my observations to verify them. The little I know about Howatt's I learned from him!

Every thing you said is correct but just the DP, no i just pulled out the magnifne glass and sure enough it has The EDP and i figured it was a target bow. I just ordere some strings for it
