Just sand then smooth and fill them with whatever product from your local hardware store most nearly matches the color. Then maybe try to match the darker streaks of grain with a felt tip market or something. Then cover that with whatever kind of varnish material you may have on hand. Or get some gunstock or tung oil or poly wood finish. After several coats and several days to dry, buff with 0000 steel wool to reduce the sheen to match the bow.
Most any filler will do. I once used toothpaste painted to match with watercolor paints. That was on a white vintage target bow that had aged to a honey color. It came out fine after varnishing. - lbg
