Does anyone have any ideas where to obtain a 2 lb weight to test wood arrow spine? I have a roller bearing aluminum arrow straightener/point alignment jig with micro dial. I assume I can use this same jig to test deflection if only I had a 2 lb weight?

A small/short jar,baby food or what ever.---fill with lead shot, BB's, washers or anything small so you can bring the weight up to exactly 2 pounds. Get it real close at home then take it to any certified scale-- post office,grocery store etc. add or subtract a few BB's for exact weight. bent wires through the lid make a handy hanger. There are many ways hope this idea gets you started. Ken

I made a 2# weight by melting 2# of fishing weight into a tuna fish can. I stuck a hooked short length of welding rod in it while the lead hardened...I made a dial indicator rather than using a dial.

I'm sure a google search would give you a lot of answers. There are 2# dumbbells or you can buy a 2.5# plate and grind off .5#.

I have a cut off from a brass rod. You could melt some lead scrap.
Here is a 2" piece which would be nearly 2 pounds:

It is 11.57 pounds per foot. Add a hook and you should be pretty close. A bit expensive, but on the other hand a calibration avoirdupois weight is about 100 bucks. You can see where melting some lead in a Friskies can gets the edge.

2lb. dumbbell like Viper stated. Go to a good hardware store and get a 1 " bolt and enough nuts and washers to weigh 2 lbs, fishing sinkers, shotgun shot, a can filled with 2lbs of something. Lots and lots of options. ANd yes, they will al be precise enough.

I took a plastic pill bottle, drilled a hole in the lead and attached a hook, placed all of it on an electronic scale and added lead shot until I had exactly 2#.

2 pound weight is easy to make like a lot of guys say here. But if you just want to buy one 3 Rivers Archery who is a sponsor here sells them.

There you go. All good ideas. I have cast led in a tuna can also but filling a bottle with shot/BB's and making a wire hook, is the safest,easiest,and quickest. Unless you also cast bullets and have the casting stuff avaialble.. Ken

Your aluminum arrow straightener would have to have 26" between the rollers to be able to use it as a spine tester. If yours is a Arizona aluminum arrow straighter like one I have it won't work. The rollers are to close together.
