Yesterday I rec'd my new to me Montana so I went to Coppen's book to confirm the manufacturing date and couldn't find the reference to this particular bow. I believe it to be a 2002 as it is marked, ML-02, with 014 written underneath. It also has the coin with Fred's bust and "Bow Hunting Equipment Co." I also want to thank The Footed Shaft for their great service and prompt delivery. Oh, and it shoots pretty good too, even with the endless loop string and the b/h right at 7-3/4. I'll be making a Flemish string for it in a couple of days so I can tinker with it. Thanks, Lance.

Sorry, meant to say that I can't post photos with my old iPad. The bow also has a black suede leather grip, if that helps. Lance.

Sounds a lot like the first Montana I had. Had the creepy looking Fred Bear Coin. See if this pic is the same one. I am no expert on Bear products however, I believe that bow to have gone through a few changes since its appearance on the market. The first one I had (like yours) was a good shooting bow and I had no issues with being accurate. I traded it out like a dummy for something else. The last one I had I could not shoot or get the feel or, and the grip felt all wrong.

If it has limb tips big enough for a walking stick and a squareish grip it is an early one, maybe 1998 or 1999. That is when I bought mine(1999).

The earlier ones had larger grips and tips

The grip seems ok and the limb tips are pointy with 4 layers of alternating white and black fiberglass reinforcement. Thanks, again. I can hardly wait for my son to help me set up my new iPad so I can post pictures. Lance.

I bought my Montana as a backup. I was surprised how nice it shot. Mine is only 50#@28". These days I use some 15/35 GT's from it. I also reworked the big tips and rounded off the grip. There was a thread somewhere about how to. here? I think you will like your new bow.
