I have been hearing about problems with rubber grips on bows on LW lately. Never had a bow with one on it until this spring. If it's going to damage the finish I'm taking it off. I would like to hear from anyone who has had some experience with them. MP

I peeled a BW rubber grip (bought from BW) off my Carroll longbow, found something like corrosion of both surface of the wood and original finish underneath. I'm sanding and refinishing the grip but see no reason to wrap it with anything, including the leather I kept after replacing. I'd installed that BW grip ten years ago and there actually was no good reason.

I have had hand surgery a few years back and tried one of the roll on one's and I like it alot it gives me a more consistent grip the more I shoot it. I have no problems with it. I have ocd bad so I check things all the time if you don't give a shit about your bow or just don't have a minute I can see where it would be a problem with the finish or clear coat on a bow.

I've had them on several of my bows and no issues at all. If you intend on keeping it on indefinitely then what's it matter since you never will see what's underneath.

Fred, I see your logic. Happily I have no hand problem...looking back, when I installed mine I wasn't gripping properly so experienced a lot of hand shock...now the same bow is no problem at all without any grip material at all.

well Ill be the odd duck. Ive had a roll on rubber grip on my Savannah since Ive owned it. This year it started moving a little so I decided to replace it. When I removed it there was a "goo" between it and the bow.
It was nasty sticky residue and when I cleaned it up I noticed it damaged the finish of the bow.
I am in the process of refinishing the bow and second guess putting anything else back on it.

I use a tennis raquet grip wrap. It is like a thin neoprene. Won't let your hand slip when it is sweaty, easy to remove and replace, doesn't damage the finish and is relatively inexpensive.

Had one once, got black fingers and the darn thing kept sliding around , use some buck skin , suede , soft leather . And all golf shops carry lather grip raps. they work if your in a hurry.
