I have a fat grip takedown Longbow...I removed the leather grip and it fits me much better. I have experimented with Camoform which works fine but I am slightly concerned about moisture buildup. It is Fiberglass under the grip anyway so likely not an issue.

Last night I put an inner tube cover on it but it was a little too tight. Seems to be ok in concept if I got a larger tube (I tore it).

Any other ideas for THIN covers? As in I don't want to add any thickness or cushion to it.

Hockey Tape. Cheap and is water resistant. Give a nice tacky grip too. Takes about 10 minutes to take off and wrap again with new tape. I like to keep things simple. You can get it in a variety of colors too - even camo. Good Luck!

It ain't pretty, but you can't beat Hockey tape when it comes to function. Never seen an NHL center with a beaver tail grip on his stick, probably a reason for that.

I used the roll on rubber grips from 3Rivers before. Only con was in hot weather it turned my hand black. Same idea as the inner tube.

I'm asking myself Runner's question. My Carroll RD longbow had a leather split grip that I replaced with a Black Widow rubber grip (like inner-tube)...years later I removed it, will slightly reshape the wood and finish it..no need for a wrap.

I feel your annoyance. The grip that's almost perfect but it needs a little something. (Or the handle is too ugly without a cover of some type).

Here's my favorite for those situations, "Babolot- Pro Team SP" It's a very thin "overgrip" material that goes over a tennis racket handle that already has a leather grip wrap, so it's very thin; just to give a better feel. I love the feel very much, second only to a good leather wrap- but works for your situation where any proper leather will make the grip too big.

I just think it's but ugly on my classic 1954 Kodiak, but once I'm holding it that doesn't matter. (Old grip trashed, compass long gone.)

The grip sleeve is fiberglass. I could try cleaning the adhesive off and see what it is like. I already have some hockey tape (Camo no less) and I can try it and see if it is better than camoform. The Camo form felt good but seemed like t would stay damp.

I've also got Gaff tape (used by photographers and sound engineers) that is strong and doesn't leave goo behind. Will try that out

Wallet leather. Some is high quality, goatskin maybe. You could put it on inside out if you prefer that look. You might also look for used purses at a thrift store. If you find one explain it is for your mistress. - lbg

I guess a fat piece of heat shrink material might work if you -can find some that big. Next thing is Plasti-Dip brush on type, you can peal it off when you want.

John, Why not take file to the grip and reduce the size? I've done it and it always works. Good luck.

It's a 2pc sleeve Takedown and the sleeve is fiberglass/carbon fiber.

I've (for years) used the thin rubber sleeve from 3R. I recently removed it and the finish was ruined under it (as the rubber was breaking down and reacting to the finish) So know Im refinishing the bow and realize the riser is pretty

I may go naked from now on:)

I use some very thin kid skin that I got at Tandy. I can sen you a piece if you want leather.

Big Jim puts beaver tail over his 2 piece composite bow grips. Pretty sure Black Widow does too. 3Rivers sells a thin leather grip material that has adhesive on one side.

Try tennis grip tape or golf club leather grip wrap.

I'm using the hockey tape now. It's pretty sticky but that will die out eventually I think. I ordered some Babolite overgris to check out. I really want to add the LEAST thickness possible

The leather that comes from a deer's back is VERY thin. And it stretches to the moon. If you cut it short enough and stretch it around the grip you will be lucky to add .030 per side in thickness.

Has anyone thought about Flex Seal? Was just watching the commercial and they use it as a coating for hammers, pliers, and anything else you can think of. You could put a thin coat for a grip or build it up to your liking. Just wondering, Pip

Hank, yep, I'll work on the grip with a file. I don't need smaller but I'd like the part that fits into my hand to be less square/angular, a little more like my Sentman, which is narrow and rounded.

So....

Hockey Tape is STICKY. I could alleviate that by rubbing powder on it and sweating on it for a week or so. And you have make sure the last wrap doesn't sit under your hand...my palm was pushing it loose.

I Just got the Babolot Overgrip. It is thicker than hockey tape. Feels really nice....I stretched it ass much as I could and kept the overlap to a minimum. It doesn't add as much thickness as leather that I have tried so far.

I finished it with electrical tape but if I keep it I will likely wrap the end with leather lace like Dan W did.

Thanks

Kangaroo leather is thin and very durable. Does not stretch much. Much stronger than cow hide and leaves no black on the hand. It has a texture that feels awesome and it looks great l on my BWA recurve. Also excellent tab marerial.
