Gene (Jean) was a school teacher who worked for Howatt in the summer. He went on to make his own bows and they obviously had a Howatt pattern to them. By the way it's Louthan, so it may be easier to find something about him with the correct name. Larry has spoke about him here several times. Try using Telum as a keyword in the search archive area.

Here's one hit. http://leatherwall.bowsite.com/tf/lw/searchaction2.cfm

"ne telum" is what I remember. denotes a dart spear etc. including weapon. Gene was a good bowyer. He made all the MX series bows for Martin Archery for some time. He retired to the Oregon Coast and died a few years ago.

Holezone, my buddy has a metal riser takedown with the Telum on the limbs. Damn thing shoots great and you couldn't pry it from his hands with a crow bar.

Here's a neco telum (hunting bow) by Jean Louthan. BTW, if you sinply google his name (with the correct spelling), you will find a link to his obituary which provides quite a bit of his archery history.

And here's another model he made, the scopus telum - a target bow. You can see the Howatt influence in his risers, and the tips (Rosewood overlay on belly side).

Whoever letter the specs on Jean's bows had the nicest handwriting in all of archery!

Here is another photo before I spray painted riser. 62" 54@28.

Here's my Neco Telum...hanging out with a herd of Howatt's. 62" 50#.

This one was more angular in design...very light despite the riser mass. Grain is pretty impressive.

There is a nice looking Telum on Ted Fry's sight Raptor Archery.

The neco telum for sale on Ted's site is very nice, and If I was a bow hoarder (hold your tongue, Kerry!), I would already own it.

Scopus Tellum, don't know what year, but it is pretty blocky, I am guessing later. Serial 810756, there is probably a date in there but don't know how to read it.

Holezone, take solice, at least Jean worked for Howatt's for quite a while so it is almost like collecting Howatts!

cueman, you are a tease! Looks like you're hiding a FASCO and an Al Gean in the. That scopus riser is a beast.

Holezone, you've got 3 hours left and I'm rooting for you!

David, it has to be one of the biggest risers on a bow I have, but it sure shoots good. I guess I should have taken pictures of some of the other racks, there is more fun stuff to play with. Just not home right now. Good luck Holezone!

I had a Letalis Telum 62" and 52lb bow. The hunk of rosewood for the riser was gorgeous. The tips are cool and different in that they have internal wedges to reinforce the tip. I have head bits and pieces about the bowyer. Heard he lived in Milton/Freewater. I got gradually disenchanted with the bow. The way the riser faded into the limb made it sorta weird with a selway rubber quiver. I took it to a Pope and Young shoot and tried it on the Clout. My 53# early 60,s Red Wing Hunter was sending 30' 2117's with 125 tips just right to the 180 yards. The Telum was far short. Had same problem practicing with a 62" 51# AMF Thunderbird. Arrows just not getting enough boost. I traded the Telum for another Red Wing Hunter.

I have a neco tellum on the wall. Shoots very well indeed. Mine likes a higher brace too get the buzz out.
