Just getting started in my first string making venture. I picked up some partial spools of 8190 to start with.
I am looking for suggestions on # of strands for 45-50# recurves and probably 60#ish recurves. Am considering trying padding the loops and going with a lower but safe string count for the bow. Then I will figure out how much to pad the serving area for nock fit.
Thanks

I have used 8190 and now BCY-X which is 8190 with a blend of 17% vectran.I use 18 strands and pad the loops to 22 strands for all my bows from 43# to 60#.Serve with .021 Halo, gives me a great nock fit for Easton 3D Super nocks and lg G-nocks.

18 padded to 22 here also with bcy-x. 2 wraps of plummers tape on string then over serve with .021 62xs.

The new 8190F is a finer dia than BCY X. I use 18 strands of X - 20 to 22 of 8190F for a similar dia string. I believe the original 8190 is a bit thicker than the X.

I make a 2 bundle string using 14 strands of 8190, padded to 20. The serving that works for me is .030, this fits Easton Super Nocks perfect. I am fairly new to string making but this recipe works great for my 50lb range bows.

We use 20 strands as our default sizing with 8190 and use .014-.021 center serving depending on the customer's nock.

I actually prefer BCY-X strings that are 24 strand...easier on the fingers, no padding required and probably a tiny bit quieter than strings with less strands...still plenty fast...you might want to think about that with 8190 as well...nock fit all depends on exactly what nocks you prefer anyway...Easton builds great consistent nocks but even not all of their Super Nocks are created equal...and as Brad implies above nock fit is maybe the most important factor in string performance

I had a BCY-X string at 20 strands and it was too overbuilt to suit me. You can tow a trailer with that. 14 strands makes a better string with that material, plenty strong and you can make nock fit easily with teflon tape and dental floss. I'm currently using a ten strand Ultracam string on a 47# bow...the loops are padded to about 18 strands. I also have a 43# bow on which I have a 9 strand Ultracam with 18 in the loops.

Most of my rigs are 40-45#. I've been running 14 strands of 8190 in my endless loop strings for the past couple of years. I pad with an additional four strands of 8190 in the loops and center serve with .021 Halo. Not too fat, not too skinny, and performance is outstanding....

Does the 20 strand BCY-X 20 strand creep at all? I've never used it but then again I haven't been making strings for very long.

You want to see zero creep learn to braid the loops...I have had a braided loop BCY-X string on my Hoyt Desperado for well over a year and it has never moved
