My buddy dropped off this bow he bought new when he was a kid. Been the attic for years! A little TLC and a new string, big difference .

I start with ripping off any old rests, rugs, or plates. Goo Gone for all the old adhesive , soft scrub cleanser just to clean all the gunk. Rinse and dry. Automotive rubbing compound with take out a suprising amount of stratches, couple coats of wood floor wax. I figure if it tough enough for a floor it should last a while on a bow. Car wax is quite soft, dish soap will wash it off.

I tried to buy it when he dropped it off. Twisted limb and all. No Way. I'm going for It again tomorrow. When he comes, wish Me luck!

Several wallets suggested Montana pine pitch for the leather , didn't have any but Snoseal is a wax based leather seal I used a small amount and really rubbed it In. Couple hours later a hair dryer and a clean rag finished it off

The 1961Herters arrows were another story. Swaged on both ends, with 5-1/2" low profile feathers. 55 year old glue was coming undone. They were RW offset. I have a LW helical clamp. After some adjusting I got them back on. No markings but figured out they were 1916, probably 24srtx.

Love that bow! Reminds me I need to drag mine out and shoot it more.

Nice job, Kyle. I started the same effort on my 1960 Herters and discovered the two maple slab halves of the riser had started to separate and a crack propogated into the glass and to get at it I had to remove that very substantial leather grip. After I soaked and tore and scraped and finally got it off and the glue that was holding it I had marred the finsh so I ended up taking it down to bare wood and glass. I am adding to phenolic overlays to the tips and then I'll try to get a good hard finish on it. I don't think I can replicate that grip, though....they dont make cattle that tough, anymore. Maybe kangaroo.

Early 1960's Herter's recurves have an elegant feel to them.

It's gone..... I couldn't talk him out of it. I shot it last night quite a bit and it was quiet, and I could keep all in the 4 ring& about half were bullseye. He bought it when he was 16. Needless to say his old glove. Was pretty bad so I thru in a large tab I had. Happy Camper. Next, I going to try and make him put it in his will to me!!!!!
